Amazon.co.uk Review
The IXOS DJ1005 Ministry of Sound headphones combine a professional listening experience with absolute comfort--at an affordable price.
The DJ1005 headphones are basically cheaper versions of the DJ1004; the design and specifications are almost identical to the slightly more expensive set. The DJ1005 offers a 40 mm driver unit and can certainly pump out all but the loudest output without distortion. As with the DJ1004 these make use of an open-back design with a padded, raised driver unit that rests close to the ear. With the thick padded side these provide a very comfortable listening experience.
Thanks to an open-back design the sound produced by the headphones is warm with a good bass-end and perfectly clear mid tones, though the high-end seems to get lost at high volume. The frequency response is fairly standard for this end of the market ranging from 20 Hz up to a reasonable high of 22 KHz. With an impedance of 32 ohms, the headphones manage 113 bd at 1 KHz. They come with a fixed three-metre lead and 3.5 mm gold plated jack, plus a clip-on 6.3 mm adapter.
As with the DJ1004, the DJ1005 has a self-adjusting head strap that works fine but doesn't secure the headsets quite so firmly to your head. The sound reproduction is good but opting for the DJ1004 would be certainly be worth the extra money. --Nick Baxter
