From audio specialists IXOS, the DJ1002 Ministry of Sound headphones offer a professional listening experience and a solid no-nonsense design.

Based on the top of the range DJ1001, the DJ1002 from IXOS is a set of headphones aimed at DJs. Teaming up with the Ministry of Sound, IXOS has produced a range of DJ headphones with enough choice to satisfy even the most demanding audio buff.

The DJ1002 headphones are top-quality DJ cans. The 40 mm drivers can kick-out enough power to drown out any background noise, letting you hear exactly what's playing. Thanks to a maximum input power of 1,000 MW and additional speaker protection you can really crank up the volume without fear of damaging the headphones or experiencing distortion.

The frequency response has a high of a reasonable 25 KHz all the way down to an excellent 10 Hz. The volume of the headphones is slightly less than its bigger brother, but at 105 db/MW is still powerful. With an 32-ohm impedance the headphones also come with a three-metre coiled lead, fixed 3.5 mm gold plated jack and screw-on 6.3 mm adapter, but no mono/stereo switch on this model.

The headphones produce sound that's as sweet as a nut, though for casual listening the bass isn't as warm as other headphones with an open back, but it is perfectly defined. Almost important as the sound is the build. The headphones (which can be rotated) are lightweight and reversible and the adjustable strap clamps the headphones firmly to your head while remaining comfortable to wear for long periods. --Nick Baxter

They just arrived today!

They sound great. I'm used to my Sony MDR-500's and the sound quality from these waaay surpasses that, in my opinion. I'm only just getting used to the different feel, though. The bass response is full and rich, and the higher frequencies still come though really clearly. I don't listen to much dance/techno but I feel like I've been in the recording studio with radiohead...and my colleagues can't hear a thing, they don't leak at all :-)

They quite neatly fit round your ears, and feel quite heavy at first. The headpiece only has padding in the middle on the underside, but that's the only place that they need it.

My biggest complaint so far? the length of the cable. Sat at my machine with my box under the desk, the cable (coiled) pulls gently just enough to be taut against the edge of my desk. So, a little longer would be nicer, but it's quite bearable. I can still lean back in my chair with no worries.

I reckon that in another week or so my rating would be more like 5 stars..but I would *really* like to see a longer cable.

I have owned a pair of these headphones for over 5 years now. The right speaker in the right ear has finally blown but with constant use for mixing and just general listening, I couldn't recommend a better pair of headphones. In the past I have used Yamaha, Sony, Pioneer and Beyer but I can honestly say I would get another pair of these in a second if I could find somewhere who has them in stock.
