This book provides a 'do it yourself' guide to successfully introducing a quality management system, compliant with ISO 9001: 2008, into a small business. It should be particularly useful to businesses with limited resources, who wish not to use an expensive consultant and who have limited prior knowledge of quality management. The book provides the necessary background to quality management before moving onto cover the requirements of each part of the ISO standard. It effectively guides the user through each activity by including advice on how to satisfy each requirement.
The book is comprehensive, logically laid out and well written for a readership with limited prior knowledge of the subject. The material is suitably broken up into manageable sections, cross referenced, indexed and subtitled. A particularly useful feature is the free generic QMS which is customisable to suit the requirements of the individual small business.
The one area which a small business would want to know which is not covered is how much it will cost to implement and operate a QMS compliant with ISO 9001: 2008. Obviously each business is different and consequently no book could answer this question with any accuracy. However the author may wish to give some consideration to providing a table with examples in a future edition.
The book is obviously based on the author's extensive experience of quality management and working with small businesses.

Do not buy this book thinking you will get free customizable forms.

I have used several books for research on the scope and requirements of the QS inorder to achieve the ISO 9001.2008 accreditation. The fourth Edition by Ray Tricker has become my bible, and have found the contents easy to read, and to adapt the existing procedures within the company into ones which comply with the ISO accreditation.
