1.0 out of 5 stars Do not work at all 2 Nov 2009
I am very disappointed after receiving the goods. Not only it cannot translate anything I write to the computer, it fails to work - full stop. When you write and lift your pen, it still continue tracking your movement...so what you write become a line of meaningless drawing. The support email doesn't work, and respond are pretty much useless - I call around 12 UK time and the nice lady told me the support is out for Lunch. When I manage speak to the support person, the comment were 'yes this problem is very common'...hmm - why did I buy this product in the first place? I thought the expensive price justify good quality, but no, not at all. Do not buy this!! Keep away from this.

1.0 out of 5 stars do not buy this if you own a Mac 26 Dec 2009
By gg
Everything is wrong with this device and the manufacturer should be ashamed to make the claims on the packaging. The software appears to just be a small preference window in OSX, which fails to even download the TIFF files the clip-on reader creates. It is nearly impossible to fix the reader to a piece of paper. The handwriting recognition software is supplied on a mini CD (why oh why do this? incredible in 2009) - it can't be used in any Apple laptop since the G3 Pismo even if it does contain a Mac program, which is highly doubtful reading the scant manual and not seeing it mentioned there.

If Amazon gave negative star ratings this would be a minus 5 - total waste of money on a Mac, and I would recommend you try one in a shop if you are considering it for Windows.

Basically if you think you need one then you are a victim of the hype and you won't be satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars IRIS Notes pen 26 May 2010
Overall the pen works well. The software is a bit quirky and takes some getting used to. You have to be very careful you set correctly the orientation of the reader with respect to the page (i.e. reader at top left centre or right of page). I find centre on a single sheet at a time is best else the reader slips and the line orientation goes haywire. You should write quite clearly to get the best script recognition results. Also you need to write in straight lines quite accurately or else your text gets scanned on to the wrong lines. The foreign language facility worked well when I tried it writing in German. I struggled to delete old notes from the pen but found you could delete them when you upload them. If you upload your converted notes to, say MS WORD, it is better to clear out the scanned notes or else the notes folders get clogged up with unwanted copies.

Although the device comes with spare pens, they are very short and I guess will soon run out, so I wonder where to get replacement pen inserts from and hope they will not be a rip off price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Steer clear of this 7 Feb 2011
By obts
My advice is that unless you like wasting money or enjoy frustration do not buy this product. I bought this and it wouldn't install. IRIS support suggested I set up a new user account to install it under. I did this but it didn't work, I was asked to download a new version, I did so. After one use it locked up. After a long wait (weeks) for return codes, I got a new unit. I used it and on the second page the pen jammed and the input was completely scrambled. Judging by the response from IRIS this is a known problem. Following the suggested solution I replaced the cartridge, and tried again, now the unit turns on and off but does not save the notes. At this point I have given up. I notice that IRIS now offer a 2 year guarantee. I think you will need it. Apart from the hardware problems the software is counter intuitive to use - uploading and recognizing text is a two stage process, the interface is ugly and difficult to decipher, icons and buttons hard to see. But the aesthetics are the least of the product problems. Basically it doesn't work.

1.0 out of 5 stars This bit of kit just does not work 8 Jun 2011
I am the secretary for quite a busy organisation and regularly take hand written notes for committee minutes. When I saw this device advertised I thought it would be manner from heaven. What a let down. It just does not work. I wrote pages of 'training' notes but never got anything resembling text. If I thought there was any chance of improvement I would contact Iris. I will certainly never buy an Iris product again. My advice if your thinking of buying is read the other one star reviews and think again.
