Decided to rebuild my ancient PC and realised that I only had one IDE slot on my Motherboard, which I needed for my optical drives. This clever device slots into your IDE Drive data port with a lead onto your Motherboard SATA connection and another to a molex power connector. Bingo, your IDE drive thinks it's a SATA drive. This of course works the other way round. Simples.

If you want to access the lower prices (and newer technology) of a SATA drive, but don't yet need to upgrade your motherboard (or get a new PC!), this is a great little product that is simple to use and install. Don't forget you will need a SATA power cable. Note that, due to the speed restrictions of the IDE socket that it plugs into, you will not be able to get SATA II speeds, but it is still pretty fast.

This is a small converter board that allows use of a sata device via an ide motherboard connector, or ide/sata. It works well at its given task.

It is quite well made, comes with a power connector - converter board to molex and a short sata cable.
One thing to be aware of is the size of the converter board, no problem when installed in a larger case but might be a problem in a small case or with certain connector layouts on smaller or crowded motherboards. The converter is about the size of a matchbox, but thinner.

one side of the connector has an ide plug, the other side has two sata connectors, which one you use depends on what way round you are 'converting', and a jumper for master/slave selection. That's it, very easy to install.

All in all a good bit of kit, cheaper than throwing away a drive when upgrading to a new motherboard which has only one ide connector.
