1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, Avoid this software 28 Jun 2009
Wasnt happy with this purchase at all. The sales speil is very convincing as with all products of this nature and their expansive claims of performance boosting and corruption fixing and registry optimisation blah blah etc. Im not an expert on computers but im very proficient to say the least. I could have fixed my computer manually but this software claimed to do it for me and quickly and effciently. I fancied being lazy and so bought this product to try it out.

When i installed it that was straight forward enough and it went on to the computer no problem but as soon as i ran it thats when the problems began. At first it seemed to be doing its job but then the fan on my processor stared to spin up to max speed like the cpu was overloading. It stayed like this for about 15 mins and there was no change on the screen from the software. Taskmanager assured me everything was working but i wasnt convinced. The software eventually locked up and then i had to re-start the comp to get things going again. A few more trys later and i managed to get the software to run but that wasnt the end of my troubles. Once it completed is examination of my computer it presented me with a box of findings and reccomendations. A quick browse revealed nothing untoward, just a list of unused programs, broken and unused registry entrys for repair or removal and then a list of old files that needed compacting.

I clicked okay and thought that was the end of it but i was so wrong. Once it was finished my computer crashed onto the blue screen, When i booted it up again the desktop was slow and unresponsive. Many pop ups started appearing from windows complaining that program installations were either damaged or incomplete and that i needed to re-install them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Maybe it was me, but.... 3 Aug 2008
I took advantage of the 1 month free trial having read professional review. After some deep scanning it set about my system, tweaking internet, cleansing my registry and mending my disk. All fine so far. I then started to experience very slow windows start-ups, agonising freezes on program loading, blue screen starts to fix my disk (again). Every day another EMail urging me to purchase, including a sale day at half price. Meanwhile system gets slow and less stable. Then I have a brainwave....deinstalled product. My system now runs much quicker and is far more stable. If you do not have this product you have made a wise omission in my opinion. But maybe it was me...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 14 Feb 2010
By Mike S
I recently bought System Mechanic 9.5, 3 user version, & I am completely 'sold' on the product. Installation was straight forward on both my desktop PC running XP Pro Service Pack 3 & my laptop running Vista Service Pack 1 (I think!). It discovered & corrected numerous registry errors on both computers, increased the performance, increased my Internet connection speed & removed 'clutter' from the hard drive, freeing up valuable space. The hard disk defrag utility works in less that half the time of the Microsoft version. Overall I am delighted. One word of caution. For some reason it took an instant dislike to the Synaptics Pointing Device (mouse & touch pad driver) on my Hewlett Packard G6000 series laptop & removed it. No big problem. I went to the SafetyNet feature in System Mechanics, clicked re install & basically don't do this again. It worked just fine. Both PC's are running as they did when new with the added benefit of increased Internet speed. I don't know how the previous versions performed but the latest version is excellent.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3 stars? 9 Mar 2009
I brought this oftware from staples not from amazon. The problem i had when i loaded the disc and entered the code it wouldnt accept it or it claimed i wasnt connected to the internet. It told me either the firewall was blocking me or another program or i justwant connected. So i uninstalled zonealarm and firefox and google chrome. And retried then it did a very long tedius downlaod of upadtaes and still palye the game of registering this to about 4 hours. Later around 11 pm i decided ti give one more klast try and hey presto it downlaoded onto my computrer accepted the activation code and startdworking and found errors that were causing my laptop to crash. No my broadband has gone back to mega fast. The last of couple of weeks i was aving very frequent crashes if i used firefox google chrome or even kmelaeon but now everything is working good as new 3 stars becasue of the hassle of loading the software at the beginning

3.0 out of 5 stars system mechanic doesn't do it all 21 Feb 2009
RECENTLY PURCHASED SYSTEM MECHANIC 8.5 DUE TO MY PC RUNNING SO SLOW I COULD WALK TO THE WEBSITE QUICKER. SYSTEM MECHANIC DID SPEED IT UP SLIGHTLY,BUT NOT TO AS NEW, WHICH IT CLAIMS TO DO. ALL IN IT'S A GOOD BUY FOR KEEPING YOUR PC UP TO SCRATCH;JUST DON'T EXPECT IT TO RAISE THE DEAD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Work well but not perfect. 26 Aug 2009
By Birmingham Book Reader VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
System Mechanic does what it says - speeds up the computer by sorting out problems. Which is fine. I like the menu, which is easy to use even for me who struggles with things like this. Really impressed that the programme found so many errors and cleaned them up!

I did find this difficult to install.

But once on there has been some improvement in the PC speed and internet speed, but please be aware it will not return the computer to as new.

A good buy.
