Amazon.co.uk Review

INXS fans will rejoice at Live Baby Live, a buoyant concert film shot during an ecstatic performance before 72,000 hopping fans in Wembley Stadium on July 13, 1991. The Australian band's vocalist, the late Michael Hutchence, is at his feral-romantic best, stalking and swivelling his way through an energised set of welterweight pop. The show starts with a big, boomy "Guns in the Sky", takes a turn toward unexpected soulfulness with "New Sensation", and spreads the wealth with a sharp set of ballads and rockers. Hutchence has fun with a naughty "Know the Difference", plays around with a Jagger-esque take on confessional soul in "The Loved One" and milks "Never Tear Us Apart" for all it's worth. The band sounds more muscular than they did in the studio, hard-charging and rough on "Suicide Blonde", drunk on a jazzy guitar hook in "Need You Tonight", and completely danceable on "Bitter Tears." --Tom Keogh

4.0 out of 5 stars The Night of a Rock God, 3 July 2001
This review is from: INXS-Live Baby Live [DVD] (DVD)
In the most evocative of epochs, INXS won the title for Concert of the Summer in 1991. It was a blissed out, baggy jeaned, floppy haircut era, and INXS surfed the moment with elegant, sparkling aplomb. This DVD captures the epic show in the evening light of Wembley Stadium, and the classics are belted out with debonair conviction. The chunky rumble of 'Guns In The Sky', the forlorn 'By My Side', the white hot flash of 'Suicide Blonde'. Hutchence is the focal point, all flying hair and swivels, and the DVD's ultimate impression is a wistful nostalgia: when Hutchence swaggered the stage, the rest of us could sit back and watch a natural. Now we have to make do with distilled Forrest Gumps twitching their stuff. A great night for slinky rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wembley Stadium - July 13th 1991, 27 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: INXS-Live Baby Live [DVD] (DVD)
This concert is a classic. I was at this gig and have a copy of it on VHS which I have nearly worn out. INXS were one of the best live bands I have ever seen, and this concert was THE best. The camerawork and editing are pretty special - this isn't just a locked off wide angle and a couple of close-ups. Bits to look out for - Mediate, Mystify and What You Need in which Michael Hutchence has all 72,000 punters singing along with him.

I will be buying this - I suggest you do too.

I am so pleased that the DVD of this concert has finally been released. My VHS tape wore out a long time ago. I'm very pleased to say that I was at the concert and this captures the amazing atmosphere and great voice and talent of the dearly missed Michael Hutchence. Fantastic music and a magical night. Buy this DVD - you will not be disappointed!
