5.0 out of 5 stars Integration 10 July 2012
By BigAl
Format:Kindle Edition
If you'd told me two years ago that I'd be reading books that were not only young adult, but full of paranormal characters, I'd have called you crazy. But I got sucked in by reading the first of Imogen Rose's Portal series, which convinced me young adult didn't mean a grandparent was too old to enjoy it. It snuck in a small dose of the paranormal, so I was open to giving it a try when she started a series that was definitely paranormal. Now I'm hooked. Integration has only set the hook deeper.

The Bonfire Academy series is a prequel to The Bonfire Chronicles, which currently has only one book, Faustine. Integration bridges the time from the end of Initiation to the start of Faustine. The focus is largely on Cordelia, although many of the students are returning, including one in particular who generates much of the book's conflict. Some new characters also make their first appearances and shake things up.

I'm always impressed by Rose's ability to introduce and integrate new characters in an ongoing series and to craft an engrossing story, which is aptly demonstrated here. But what struck me as I was reflecting on Integration was that she's done a first class job of world building without me realizing it. When I think of a typical book in the fantasy or science fiction genres, I expect a large part of that will be describing a world that is much different than anything in real life, while having enough aspects of the real world for us to be able to relate. While Rose's world exists on the same planet we live on and sometimes her characters visit that world, I realized that what she has done with the Bonfire Academy series is created a world that is just as foreign to the world I live in as a story taking place on Planet X. None of the characters are 100% human.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book 19 Feb 2013

Thoroughly enjoying so far, still reading as only just started. Only negative is I can't seem to find a next book in this series. I know there is another, Faustine, which makes Initiation and Integration the prequels. It's a shame, good books and I was hoping for more.

None of the characters are 100% human. Their emotions, reactions, and powers are, at most, sometimes human-like, but more often not. Maybe the reason it took me this long to realize this is that their goals aren't that much different from those of a human teenager: Survive school, have fun, and find someone to hook up with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 31 July 2012
By Amber I @ AwesomeSauce - Published on Amazon.com

A great follow up to the first book Initiation. I honestly love Cordelia, she is a princess who is beautiful and has so much going on for herself, and oh yeah she changes into a monsterous looking demon who has pus oozing out of her. No big deal..

Bonfire isn't a normal school. Its a school for a select few paranormal creatures, and it helps them migrate into the human world without causing problems and how to interact with other creatures. When I first read Initiation I really wasn't sure I was going to like Cordelia, she didn't seem like a character I could relate too, but I was so wrong. As soon as she took on being Faustine's mentor she seemed to grow in my eyes and I loved her loyalness. Now we all know me I love my books to have lots of romance, but in this series I love seeing how close Cordelia and Faustine are. There is some romance but the 2 girls and all the crazyness that happens to them is really more the main focus.

Another awesome thing about this book that if you like YA but kinda get burned out on it this series is like right in the middle. Its not too YA but not Adult either.

I am eagerly waiting for book 3 after this books ending. It was a major cliffhanger. I am not complaining but man I need the next book now. This series is great. I love all the action, the mystery and there is always a surprise thrown in there. Its a series any paranormal fan will want to check out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Some serious demon-fairy-witch-vampire-trolly-shifter goodness!!!! 4 April 2013

This series is fabulous! Some serious demon-fairy-witch-vampire-trolly-shifter goodness!!!! I have thoroughly enjoyed the mixture of all these paranormals & their abilities. Not to mention all the excitement & trouble they get in & out of. :) I can only imagine the fun it would be to attend another year at the academy! (I say another, because I feel like I was right there with them through it all while reading Initiation & Integration.) ;) Here's hoping Imogen Rose brings us more of her Cordelia, Faustine, & Jagger greatness very soon, because I'm sure I'll need a Jagger fix! ;*}

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance, suspense, mystery, and high intensity 16 Feb 2014

I will start out by saying that this isn’t my usual kind of book. So I was a little out of my comfort zone when I started reading Integration. I can say that I got hooked and read it all in one day.

I can’t really decide if there really is a main character in this book. Some characters have more parts as others but there really isn’t just one. I could be wrong because I didn’t get to read the first one. I didn’t feel like I was missing much because I was taken back to certain parts in the first book to explain things.

I really enjoyed that I got to see so many paranormals in one place. I got to see witches, vampires, demons, shifters, trolls, and fairies to just name a few. I also got to meet new ones like trackers, and wanderers. It was great to have an academy that everyone could go to and help them with their powers. I enjoyed all the testing that was done to fit everyone’s needs. Classes for everyone to get introduced to so that they can get along out in the real world.

There were so many twist and turns going on that I never knew what was going to happen next. It has a good plot and it was fastly paced. I had no problem keeping up. Just when I thought I had it all figured out something else would happen and make me second guess myself.

I will be waiting in anticipation for the next book. It gives you a little hint at the end of the book. Just enough to get you in it’s clutches and just leaves you hanging. So if the third one is as great as this one then she has really outdone herself.

I highly recommend this book to anyone. If you love a book with some romance, suspense, mystery, and highly intense then you will love this book.

So I’m hoping that everything goes good for Cordelia, Faustine, Harry, Quinn, Jagger, and Mason. That is just a few of the characters. Some are good and some are bad but you’ll have to find out for yourself just who is who. So happy reading and let’s hope the bad one’s gets whats coming to them.
