Sydney Banks discovered some of the essential "TRUTHS" about life. We all know gravity exists, for example. One thing he shared with us, is that we live in the feeling of our thoughts. Our thoughts, not our experiences, are what define our moments. In this wonderful little book he visits the islands and discovers answers to some of his deepest questions with some of the wisdom shared by certain people there. He uses stories to share these simple truths.
You can have thousands of people watching a great game of football, perhaps the last game of the season. At the end, about half the people are jumping for joy and celebrating long into the might. Most of the other half are disappointed with their team, sad, frustrated and everything in between. Same game, different experiences. What we don't realize is we do this all day long.
When we begin to realize this, our life changes. We are not required to "do anything" different. I live with gravity without really thinking too much about it. I also know if I drop something it will fall. If I jump off a cliff I will fall. If you find yourself really sad or angry some day, stop and think. I am only living in the feeling of these thoughts. The thoughts are not real or tangible or solid. My personal beliefs and ideas, like the football game, are affecting my thoughts. Then you fall right back into balance again. Of course there is a lot more too!
I love Sydney's book and his Three Principles. Changed my life over night! Michael Neill who wrote the Inside Out Revolution (also a Great book) refers to him often and that is why I began reading his other books!
