Product Description

Extraordinary panoramic vistas, taken from a 2-engine plane with a camera attached to its nose, amazing geological facts, and marvelous animals, most of them unique to Australia, are what we get in this superb documentary of what is both the world's smallest continent, and its largest island. Once joined to Antarctica many millions of years ago, with high mountains and lush forests, time transformed Australia into 3 million square miles of mostly arid flat land, and its creatures adapted to the different weather conditions. This is a glorious but harsh land, with a strange beauty that fills the soul. Australia is described as being more like another planet than another country, and this documentary has many images rarely seen.

If you have even a passing fascination for Australia, then this is for you. It's incredibly well shot and is a rewarding experience in high definition. If only it was six or seven hours long and covered even more of the outback and coastline! It all looks so stunning and despite the voice-over, it's a great purchase. And on top of that I got this from Amazon for ten pounds less than what I almost paid just an hour earlier in town. As for the voice-over, I can only assume he wasn't even looking at the screen when he read his lines and had been soundly asleep before someone woke him up and handed him the script. Why do so many of these IMAX (or documentaries in general) feature so many bland, bored droners? I've played this BluRay a few times with subtitles instead. Makes me realise just how good David Attenborough is. But despite that, it's such a brilliantly filmed crystal-clear disc it's well worth having.

Good documentary 21 Nov 2009
Format:Blu-ray
A good documentary which gives glimpses of Australia's best. Contains some spectacular views of Australian landscape. The only downside is the commentary. It is very passive and boring. But that wouldn't stop one from enjoying the film, even with audio on mute!
