Product Description

In the air above Switzerland, on the sheer rock-and-ice wall known as the Eiger, an American climber is about to embark on the most perilous and meaningful ascent he has ever undertaken: an attempt to scale the legendary mountain that took his renowned fathers life. Against a backdrop of overwhelming natural beauty, The Alps is a true-life story of extraordinary courage. It s the intensely personal journey of a man who has every reason not to climb the deadly Eiger North Face, yet climb it he must. Featuring some of the most spectacular giant screen imagery yet seen, the film celebrates the unsurpassed beauty of the Alps and the indomitable spirit of the people who live there..

5.0 out of 5 stars Great film with heart 21 Sep 2009
Format:DVD
I thought this was an excellent film which showed the Alps in all its fantastic beauty. The story of John Harlin climbing the Eiger combined wonderfully, he came across as a wonderfully warm human being and fantastic climber of course.

This is a great film and I'd recommend it highly.

If you love the Swiss Alps, this will give you some idea of what its like to be up one of them, hanging from a rope.

Lovely shots of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, God's own country.

2.0 out of 5 stars IMAX The Alps is NO 3D Film! 18 Sep 2010
By Erik
Format:Blu-ray
The label says "3D", but this film is a "normal" 2D IMAX Film. I've seen it in Germany in an IMAX Theatre. The name of the fim is irritating: it's not about "The alps", but about one mountain only: The Eiger. As usually, MacGillivray/Freeman have created a boring pathetic story artificially enriched by fictive drama. I was bored watching the fim even on giant screen.

1.0 out of 5 stars False marketing 13 April 2011
Format:Blu-ray
Pathetic - received this item yet it's not 3D. To make matters worse, it's still being advertised as 3D yet it's not??!!??!!
