IELTS Testbuilder Pack by S. McCarter and Judith Ash,
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: IELTS Testbuilder - Book with Audio-CDs (With Key): Pack (with Key) (Hardcover)
THE SUBTITLE OF THIS SUPERB BOOK is Tests That Teach and this is certainly true. The blurb on the jacket promises 'advice on how to approach the exam, exlanations of why answers are correct or incorrect and tips on tackling each paper and further guidance in problem areas.' IELTS Testbuilder keeps these promises, and delivers the goods. Students will learn while they practise. The authors have addressed the problems students face in doing exams and writing essays even at the preparatory stage; the exercises designed to guide them through the basic steps of how to go about tackling the questions really get to the core issues of where they go wrong. Furthermore the explanations in the key are a true friend for candidates, as all too often books just provide answers and students don't understand the nature of their errors and mistakes. The articles themselves are interesting and thought-provoking, while the language is the right level of difficulty for the IELTS exam. The layout is easy to read, graphs and diagrams are clear and the variation of typeface is kind on the eye. The book has an attractive cover design, and the inclusion of two free CDs make it real value for money. The quality of the recordings is excellent, and, like the reading passages, the listening sections are interesting too. For both students and teachers of this exam the Testbuilder is an ideal companion, and a welcome addition to the four other books Sam McCarter has written for IELTS. I cannot recommend it highly enough - it has certainly earned its five stars!
