The IEE and City and Guilds are jointly producing a new book that is intended to help candidates for the City & Guilds 2377 certificate. The book is being prepared specifically to help candidates prepare for the exam, and will be of particular benefit to those who may not have previously taken exams via City and Guilds' Global Online Assessment (GOLA) system. The book will give candidates excellent practice before they sit the City and Guilds multiple choice, open book 2377 exam. Organised in the same way as the exam, the book includes full sample papers from both parts of the exam. Worked through answers to questions are designed to reinforce knowledge and understanding of the IEE's Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. The book also features revision help, handy tips and advice from the examiners and an FAQ section, all of which should make candidates feel confident and ready for the big day.
About the Author
Jonathan Elliott is a Senior Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology where he is involved with the preparation of the IEE Wiring Regulations: BS7671 and related guidance. He is an experienced lecturer on City & Guilds electrical courses and was an Operations Engineer with the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC). Mark Coles is a Senior Engineer with the Institution of Engineering and Technology, where he is involved with the preparation of the IEE Wiring Regulations: BS 7671 and related guidance. He served an electrical apprenticeship with the UK Atomic Energy Authority and studied Electrical & Electronic Engineering at London South Bank University. He is Secretary to JPEL/18, the UK National Committee for electrical installations on ships, Secretary to JPEL/64D, sub-committee dealing with external influences and UK expert to international committee IEC MT 9 dealing with protection against electric shock.

I am soon to attend college to do a two day course on portable appliance testing that is the practical and theory side of the course later I have to complete an online test of my knowledge so I thought I would get ahead of the game by studying before I go to college and sit the test. The book is exactly as described in that it covers all the kinds and types of typical qusetions that you are going to be asked. It is well written and throughly researched as it gives you a step by step guide through the different parts of the examination, if you have been listening at college this is a refresher to the actual exam, not the actual questions by ones very close to the ones that you will be asked. I recommend it to first time learners and as a refresher to other electricians or managers.

This book is very good to familiarise yourself with the type of questions that will be asked in the city and guilds 2377-100 and 200 exams. There are 3 mock exams one covering 2377-100 and two covering 2377-200. All the questions and answers are explained with detailed work through in follow up chapters. Slightly overpriced maybe (hence 4 stars) but you can always sell it on once it has served its purpose.

Why bother purchasing this book when the IEE PAT Testing course is only one day and the exam is open book anyway? I took both CGLI 2377/1 and CGLI 2377/2 on the same afternoon with the IEE Code of Practice open in front of me. Don't waste your money. This book isn't needed to be able to pass the exams.
