Product Description

Review

This is a classic book, now in its third edition, but the authors have taken great care to keep the material up-to-date and present very contemporary concerns and issues with supervision.  I highly recommend that all supervisors and therapists have this on their bookshelves.  Nadya A. Fouad, PhD, University Distinguished Professor, Department of Educational Psychology, The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee

In this superbly written third edition, the authors have significantly enriched their unique and invaluable developmental approach to supervision.  They do a masterful job in providing a lucid description of their integrative developmental model of supervision and its rich theoretical grounding.  Nadine J. Kaslow, PhD, ABPP, Professor and Chief Psychologist, Emory Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Grady Health System

The authors provide a practical yet scholarly approach to clinical supervision that recognizes the core of the process, as well as the variations introduced by the level of the practitioner's experience from neophyte, to advancec therapist.  This book will be helpful to beginning as well as experienced clinical supervisors.  Lawrence Shulman, MSW, EdD, Dean and Professor Emeritus, The University at Buffalo

Product Description

The third edition of this book is an updated and expanded presentation of the widely used Integrative Developmental Model of Supervision.  In contrast to other volumes on clinical supervision, Stoltenberg and McNeill present a comprehensive, time-tested, and empirically investigated model of supervision, rather than a broad summary of other existing or historical approaches.  In addition to presenting a model of therapist development that spans beginning through advanced training, the book integrates theory and research from numerous perspectives, including learning, cognition, and emotion, as well as an up-to-date treatment of research directly addressing the supervision process.  The model also examines the role of clinical supervision from an evidence-based practice perspective and addresses issues of common factors in therapy.  The impact of cultural issues in supervision and training, as well as recent work in a competencies approach to supervision and trainee development, are also examined.

The Leading Theoretical Approach 20 Nov 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book should be required reading for all students seeking to develop into Counseling or Clinical Psychologists. To date, it is the most comprehensive review of research and theory in the area of supervision under one cover.
My favorite book on clinical supervision! 3 May 2010
By Frequent online shopper - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I first read this book for a doctoral practicum seminar and found it helpful for understanding my strengths and growth edges as a counselor-in-training. I read it again when I began providing clinical supervision for masters and doctoral students in counseling psychology, and appreciated how it helped me again realize both my own developmental level as well as how to work with my supervisees' training needs. Since then, I have used this in supervision sessions with students (particularly some of the summary tables) and appreciate how it helps alleviate a lot of the anxiety trainees feel as it normalizes their uneven skill development. The only down side to this book is that it is out of print and can be difficult to get one's hands on a copy!
