5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By S Bailey on 24 Sep 2012
Format: Audio CD
A no-frills, budget-priced compilation of this short-lived and boastfully named mid- to late-1960s rock 'super-group'. Critics may well carp that, at just less than 45 minutes and 11 tracks long, Icon doesn't provide sufficient time to display the technical proficiency of the trio of Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton fully. But it would be fair to say that the crème de la crème of Cream's small back catalogue of psychedelia, blues, and hard rock is featured here: including 'Crossroads'; 'Strange Brew'; 'Sunshine Of Your Love', and 'White Room'. It provides an abbreviated version of the more expensive double CD Icons (which devotes a single disc to live recordings).

Excellent compilation which included 'live' tracks.
Very rare to get all these quality tracks on one CD.
A bargain price too!

(no pun, but) An Iconic necessity for those who "came of age" in the '60's. 25 Sep 2012

Anyone who was alive and aware in the late '60's knows CREAM, TRAFFIC, BLIND FAITH to be the originators of the "British blues/rock music". This album (showing my age) allows us to sit back, listen with our headphones and remember those years of magic & smiles.

Great Mid 60's Era Trio 9 Mar 2013

This is not called a Best Of, Greatest Hits, you name it, but it is. It contains all of the many many great hits this band had. Each of its three members is a genuine hero on their chosen instrument (and voices). I like this compilation because it has both their greatest studio offerings as well as the best live recordings. Cream is just a great band to add to you collection. There's lots of taste and style.

Not quite as smooth as others 26 Aug 2011
By Michael Alborough - Published on Amazon.com

I enjoy Cream for the unusual melodies and some of the classic 'old' songs from the early days of this genre.
Icon is not bad but I cannot take to the interminable
instrumentals like "Sweet Wine" at exactly 15 minutes. Perhaps we should call this one 'experimental'. I prefer to remember Cream as one of the best and original vocal groups.
Cheers
Mike
