This is an absolutely first-class text, both as an aid to learning and as a reference. I found that several queries raised by my reading of other texts were answered with the utmost clarity by this book.

A couple of minor quibbles: (1) Perhaps TOO comprehensive in its coverage of the different characteristics of modern assemblers (2) Little or no information on earlier versions of Assemblers, which require different assembler directives. This can be puzzling if you're trying to interpret earlier source code or you're one of those impoverished amateur programmers who are still using them!

Almost a work of art 12 May 2010

The cover of this book gave me the impression that the contents of the book would be presented in an overly academic way: that is far from the truth. All that you will ever need to know about Assembly language is covered in the most skilful of ways. At no time have I felt intimated by the author's wisdom or expertise: a sign of a master, in my opinion. It's strange really, because if someone had shown me the inside of this book before I bought it then I am absolutely certain that I would have dismissed it without any justification at all. I am delighted that I bought this book.

Not many books of this convenient size get across half as much useful information. It makes for a very interesting read, even if you don't intend to put it to practice.

This is low-level heaven. You too can write a program to add two numbers in only 7 days !

Definitely the best assembler book I have seen.
