It did not work out of the box :¬(
I checked the power supply voltage and it was dead
(this has been reported in other reviews)

I have some configurable power supplys here so i rigged one up exactly the same as supplied
12v -....(....+ as on the supplied power supply sticker and it did not work :¬(
i reversed it to +....(....- and it worked - how weird.

Maybe packaging up for UK market they mixed up power supplies.

UPDATE 1 after testing

eSATA usage show this unit to be awful
small file reads 3-4 MBytes a second
large file reads 20 MBytes
large file write 40 MBytes (weird) but....
writing to the unit the disc starts and stops alarmingly :¬(
(this has been reported in other reviews)

This seems weird and worse than USB also
i dont really trust the copy worked now
i will test with MD5 checksum and report back

After having bought and returned one of the docking stations from a high street retailer, I zeroed in on this one after a lot research and comparing other similar products. I am glad I chose this. This is an excellent product.

Pros:
Is very well built and has a very aesthetic look. The blue/red LED is cool!
The power adapter with this one is much better than the ones with other similar devices and looks well designed/built enough for long term continuous use.
Has a SATA port in case you have a computer that has external SATA connections.

Cons:
Nothing major.
My only quibble is that it would have been nice to have a female USB socket on it to be able to connect pen drives and such.

I have connected this to a western digital TV device and it works flawlessly with it. The ultimate goal was to have all my media ripped onto hard disks, to protect the fragive Bluray and DVDs. I am planning to buy another one because currently I find myself lugging the one I have to different computers to copy media to hard disks.

Needed to get something like this - I do have cables to connect internal drives to USB port, but this just makes it so much more tidier than hanging expensive drives down from the usb port on your PC!

Obviously the bigger the drive & the more data you are transferring over USB, the more time it takes to copy files over, but thats a limitation of USB 2.0 - not of this docking station.

Can thoroughly recommend - it really is as simple of turning it on, inserting your drive & appears in "My Computer" as a drive letter. the "Apple" design also helps, making it look good as an permanent additon to your workstation or desk!

If you have any reasons or need to copy data off internal drives on a regular basis, I would recommend you buy this - every PC technician should have one!

Not a lot to say really, simply does not work, couldn't access hard drives placed in the dock. Returned for a refund.

Well, as a German product, i though it would be faultless. I was wrong.
It's a beautiful silver box. It's strong solid as opposed to those fragile plastic boxes you see in the market.
The USB port works well and if you don't intend using the eSATA port, this is the unit for you!
Now, the bad part: The eSATA port doesn't work. I tried first in a PC which platform was Windows XP. It doesn't even recognize the unit. Then, i tried in a Windows 7 PC. It connects, recognises it the unit, reads its contents, but when you start moving files from the external HD to the internal HD, the HD stops, starts, stops again, starts again and you start to feel afraind that your HD is going to break down.
Another thing: Amazon doesn't inform us properly, but the unit comes already with an eSATA cable, so don't need to buy another one.
Since I bought this unit for the eSATA port, i'm returning it today.
Someone said in another review that you have to start the PC with the eSATA connected and docked. It doesn't work either. Tried that as well.

The description of the item was great. All the necessary information was there. The item was delivered in excellent condition and pretty fast. The packaging was ok. The product was exactly what I was looking for and worked as intended. I am very satisfied by the level of service at all the stages of my purchase.

I can't get it to work through the eSATA port on my motherboard; however, this is more than likely a problem with the BIOS as it works fine with an internal to external cable.

It works better than expected now that I have a workaround. Basically, I previously bought a £37 Delock dock that was advertised as being eSATA Gen3, but I sent it back because I was only getting SATA Gen2 speeds, even when plugged into a SATA Gen3 port on my motherboard. This dock, however, is advertised as eSATA Gen2, which gives you ~250MB/s, but I'm getting SATA Gen3 speeds. I tested a spare SSD, and it averaged 482MB/s! (And, before anyone says anything, yes, that is 482 megaBYTES (with a big 'B'), not the eight times smaller/slower 480 MegaBITS (with a small 'b') that USB2 offers.)

This gadget it's great, I have it connected to a Western Digital TV (Multimedia decoder). So easy to change the disk to charge the multimedia files. Button of on/off and disk it's always well refrigerated. Good product in general.
