I'm about to purchase an iPod Touch. Want it most for music and diary/calendar/contact function. Have no desire to use for internet or wifi, so can someone tell me, can I turn it off? Don't want wifi connected if it's not necessary. Can someone who has one, advise me please. Thanks alot.
i have the 32gig version and recently got a bt home hub and hey presto, NO CONNECTION, i have trawled through the net to try and find an answer only to find many many more people with the same problem. The touch finds the hub and even connects but the hub will not allow me to surf or do anything. SOLUTION: Dump BT and will now be going with virgin, especialy as 50mbps speeds will be coming my way later this year, another solution would be to buy a 3rd party wirlless router but not for me, i want bigger and better, BT are too slow, too controlling and too costly for what you get.

For this price i would highly suggest searching for something else if you have no use for the wifi as without the wifi its just a very expensive calender/mp3 player, you still need a pc with itunes on to put your music onto the player, ther is no work around unless you lurk into the world of hacks. The wifi can be switched off but the battery life is still poor with it off.
The manufacturers battery life is 36 hours of music playback or 6 hours of video playback. As per Amazon's technical speel: Music playback time: Up to 36 hours when fully charged Video playback time: Up to 6 hours when fully charged
Battery life - seems to depend on which applications you use. Games chew the battery up in a couple of hours. Buy and no use wi? Seems pointless. Buy a dedicated music player and a filofax or get a PDA such as the Palm smart phone Wi connection. Not a problem and I am on BT. Travelling around it finds wi very quickly. Maybe good idea to get the app wi fi finder.
i have a netgear router which is fine I can connect my laptop to network for internet connection but cant on ipod touchdoes anyone know how can solve? my network shows up on ipod but when i put in my network key/password it says unable to connect so frustrating as want to go on apple store to download games but cant help
My Ipod 2g just arrived. Cant connect to any network even with the wep/wpa key correctly entered. tried everything still no luck. I think its a unlucky few who have this problem, just hope it isnt the device you get.
hi, what's the deal with price plans - ie if I buy a 2ndhand iphone, can I connect to WiFi free without having a mobile phone contract? Or is it locked somehow? Am thinking of taking it travelling so I can get email, but don't actually need it as a phone.
