it's an amazing song. there isn't a moment that isn't interesting. it's got a lot going on at all times. there are some very peculiar things that happen with the distortion and the dub, but it all adds up to something amazing.
ive been a long-time death cab fan, it's hard for me to say this but i think this is one of their best songs. it has the drive and the imagination of stability but it's got the pop-sensibility and clarity of "the sound of settling."
there's been a lot of talk about how the album, narrow stairs, will be so different than their past work - but i really can just hear death cab in this. it sounds like them. and it isn't just ben's voice that makes it sound like them. they do a lot of things on this song that are just typically death cab - the way the drum-line and the bass-line mingle but work on such different levels, the way the guitar jangles, and the way the build-up never really gives to one moment of climax.
i love this song. i'm really happy the band chose this direction. the lyrics are amazing, too - if simple and clear, not necessarily ben gibbard's best but that's setting the bar pretty darn high.
