4.0 out of 5 stars Different. 22 Mar 2008
By Jill J. Weinberg - Published on Amazon.com
In a piece that's more layered and much deeper than any of their previous pieces, "I Will Possess Your Heart" strikes a different chord than anything on 'Plans.' What is largely a four minute interlude into the lyrical portion, six layers of sound and distortion are used, a stark contrast to their more recent and simplistic works. A change that is neither good nor bad, it creates a different feel for the song. There's a little bit too much use of the Chorus, but it gets the 'repititous, needy plea' feeling across. An interesting and well done start to their new album.
5.0 out of 5 stars a lot like seeing them live 18 Mar 2008

theres so much ambience going on. if you've seen them live its a lot like that. if you havent been that fortunate, try this song and find some live shows for free on the internet somewhere. i prefer them live to studio
5.0 out of 5 stars i've had my heart possessed, again by mr. gibbard and friends 18 Mar 2008

it's an amazing song. there isn't a moment that isn't interesting. it's got a lot going on at all times. there are some very peculiar things that happen with the distortion and the dub, but it all adds up to something amazing.

ive been a long-time death cab fan, it's hard for me to say this but i think this is one of their best songs. it has the drive and the imagination of stability but it's got the pop-sensibility and clarity of "the sound of settling."

there's been a lot of talk about how the album, narrow stairs, will be so different than their past work - but i really can just hear death cab in this. it sounds like them. and it isn't just ben's voice that makes it sound like them. they do a lot of things on this song that are just typically death cab - the way the drum-line and the bass-line mingle but work on such different levels, the way the guitar jangles, and the way the build-up never really gives to one moment of climax.

i love this song. i'm really happy the band chose this direction. the lyrics are amazing, too - if simple and clear, not necessarily ben gibbard's best but that's setting the bar pretty darn high.
