From the opening track 'Just A Loser' with soulful vocals, nice guitar work, and the brass of the Memphis Horns, this promises to be another good album from Robert Cray, and the promise stays good. 'I'm A Good Man' with more impassioned vocals backed by a deep and rich rhythm, and some great organ playing, with beautiful guitar solos flowing and at times jagged and fragmented in typical Cray style. The title track 'I Was Warned' is a truly great soul/blues number co-written by Cray, with tightly clipped rhythm guitar. Cray sings with such emotion and conviction backed up by some truly excellent guitar playing. Over seven minutes of classic blues/soul. This will do for me, Bob! 'Won The Battle' - 'Looks like I won the battle but lost the war' sings Robert whilst the organ swirls and stabs, plus more fragmented guitar work to delight. Every track of this ten track cd is beautifully sung and played. This is an excellent album of over forty nine minutes of blues and soul where often the two mix smoothly and easily together to great effect. Well, I'm certainly glad I bought it! Recommended.
