Review

This is not a photographic manual! This is a true 20th century adventure that includes the story of Dennis' long battle with alcoholism and how Simone's mother saved her five children from the Nazis in occupied Paris. --Readers

I have known Dennis for many years and throughout that time, he has been a constant a...hole. Argumentative, doesn't listen, forgets what you tell him and forgets what he has already told you and at times can be a miserable sod. --Geoffrey Speller, Formerly Chairman and Chief Executive, J.Walter Thompson Company, Manchester

Product Description

The year is 1992, the room is full of pro photographers. One of the USA's best, Hanson Fong, notices Dennis and loudly proclaims, "Dennis Hylander! You used to be famous". 15 years on, and in a final attempt to live this down, Dennis has delved into his past to find out why he used to be famous. From blitz-torn Glasgow to selling clothes pegs at The Festival of Britain, Dennis takes us on a tour across post-war Europe and America. With time spent in Hollywood's Republic Studios with some of the greats, to becoming a clapper boy and then cameraman in 50s swinging London, to working in Montreal taking portraits door to door. He even managed to fit in getting arrested on the train back to New York accused of being a 'Red' during the McCarthy era. Follow Dennis on his amazing journey achieving international recognition as an award winning photographer and a most successful businessman. It really began in Australia where Dennis met and married Parisian born Simone. Together they created one of the most well known wedding and portrait studios in the country. Relive their experiences from photographing prize livestock in the bush to shooting well known stage and TV actors. A UK trip convinced them that the market was ripe for their innovative style of photography, and that big bucks could be made! In 1967 they opened their UK operation and the rest is history.
