Scottish traditional music at its best.No put on phoney accents here, this is the real voice of our wonderful east coast.Songs with humour like the Foundry bar are guaranteed to make you smile. Jim's rendition of my all time favourite Rowan Tree brings a tear to the eye. This c.d. in my opinion captures the essence of the Scottish East coast taking us on a musical journey from over the border in Nothumberland through Fife and into the Angus Glens. The opening track The Wild Geese/Norland Wind is the result of a poem written by Violet Jacob set to music by Jim.I love the way this song in particular is delivered in our native Scots tongue. This masterpiece is for Scots everywhere.

A great album - Jim Reid's first solo recording after his time with The Foundry Bar Band. Includes two of Jim's best know songs - The title song The Wild Geese was written as a poem by the Angus poet Violet Jacob and set to music by Jim & is now considered to be something of a classic & "Up The Noran Water" which is another poem set to music, this one being Helen Cruichshank's "Shy Geordie". Other great songs on the album include Bogie's Bonnie Belle, The Flower Of Northumberland & Busk Busk Bonnie Lassie. A quiet classic imho.

Lovely voice 25 May 2012

Something really lovely about Jim Reid's voice here. Untrained I'd guess, but a real natural comfortableness with itself, no straining, just an obvious pleasure in singing that's a pleasure to hear. The best songs here are mostly towards the doleful end of the emotional spectrum, leavened by some scurrilous comic ones.
