Maybe it's because I've been mainly buying albums, but it's seems a long time since I've heard a feisty, zesty vivacious pop song with crunchy guitar riffs and a shoutalong chorus like wot we had all the time in the late seventies.
The Kaiser Chiefs I Predict a Riot recalls such great songs as "Turning Japanese" or "Sound of the Suburbs" or anything from XTC round that time. The verses scurry round like a rat with a firework taped to its tail while the chorus has a pogo inducing rhythmic verve and is both infectious and memorable.You.ll be singing it for days and annoying everyone while you do.
B side "Wrecking Ball" is a more lachrymose song, almost a ballad, with a sweet melodic dip in the chorus and recalls the days when bands actually bothered to write decent songs for the old style b sides on 7 inch vinyl.
This bands debut album should be very interesting and could induce the same sort of buzz as Franz Ferdinand's did. It, s interesting that new bands are once again releasing killer singles in order to create a sense of anticipation for their albums and hints at a ripening resurgence that could provide an essential antidote to the morass of mainstream dross.It, s a pity the great Peel won't be around to see it. He like me would love the quiet riot that would be. See how good this single is? It's got me predicting a riot of my own.

Although yet to record their first album, the Kaiser Chiefs are, with good reason, one of the most hotly-tipped bands of the year. This second single builds on their fantastic first which sold out.. Get it while you can!

A very catchy, straightforward rocker, reminiscent of early-'80s XTC but a little less quirky. I hope they can sustain this quality for their debut album.
