I purchased this book wanting a lighthearted, laid-back read. Although it certainly fulfilled this objective, this predictable chick-lit-by-numbers left me unsatisfied.
The author does not so much insult the reader's intelligence as call it's mother a fat cow.
Barely coloured sketch of a female protagonist? Check.
Brace of female friends, one being the diametric opposite of the other? Check.
Ubiquitous improbably handsome homosexual male friend? Check.

Follows the traditional formula for this genre: twenty-something 'girl' meets man built to NASA specifications, who inexplicably falls for our nondescript heroine, summounts minor obstacle to true love, and, well that's it.
Plot twists are alluded to so heavy-handedly that when the author lurches to her conclusions they appear more like french curves.

Perhaps I have a falsely raised standard of expectation for the light reading genre. Albeit, this novel seems like a reconstituted meal. Leaves one craving more substance and less surface.

'I Never Fancied Him Anyway' is a very light and easy read, which is perfect if you want to escape for a few hours. The main protagonist, Cassandra, is an every day kind of person, with the gift of foresight. Some people I have spoken to did not like the novel, due to the fact the main character is a psychic, and if that is the case then this book will not be for you. However, I did enjoy this book, and loved the ending, which could not have ended better. The novel is very entertaining, a good read.

Obsession....! 22 Oct 2007

I could not put this Book down from the moment I read the first paragraph. Easy to read, beautifully written and gripping. Chick Lit at it's very very best. The only downside is, I rushed through this wonderful book and then felt sad at the end because it was over. More of the same please Miss Carroll.
