When I heard that they'd decided to release this track from the fantastic 'Dance, Love, Pop' album, I thought it may be a mistake. However, what was originally an unremarkable ballad has been totally transformed for it's UK release.
The vocal itself has been re-recorded, it's been speeded up into a Euro pop dance track and additional strings added. Best of all, the previously submerged piano section (similar to Coldplay's 'Clocks') now takes off from the 2nd chorus onwards and brings a whole new dimension to the production. There is a brilliant middle eight ('The clock keeps ticking, the fuse is burning') that segues into an ad-libbed, uplifting outro.
There are stronger songs on the album (including the insanely catchy 'Love, Love, Love') but nonetheless this is high end melodic dance pop that feels incredibly fresh and yet instantly familiar too.
The Cahill remix keeps to broadly the same template but punches the bassline out (making things even more dancefloor friendly but perhaps losing the bittersweet finesse of the original).
UPDATE: Scraped into the bottom end of the top 40 and then disappeared, which is very disappointing for such a melodic and catchy track. Difficult to know what the next single should be but fingers crossed for 'Love, Love, Love' or 'Secret Love'.
