4.0 out of 5 stars Para-Mates Series - book 1 20 Jun 2010
By Sarah Gibson TOP 50 REVIEWER TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Jenn is a Protector and it is her job to keep humans safe from the supernatural creatures that most of them have no idea exist. When she is forced to take a holiday by her boss she meets the man of her dreams and after a whirlwind romance they are quickly married. Back home from her holiday turned honeymoon she has to juggle her day job as an estate agent alongside her Protector duties whilst trying to settle into married life. Keeping her role as a Protector secret from her new husband Blake becomes even harder when she is tasked with finding an important bracelet before it falls into the hands of the demon lord who wants to use it to destroy the world.

Her investigations take a turn for the worse when she starts to have suspicions that her gorgeous new husband might actually be a demon. How could her instincts have been so wrong about Blake? With both Jenn and Blake searching for the bracelet for their own cause will it end up in the hands of good or evil? And can sworn enemies overcome everything for the sake of love?

I Married A Demon is the first book I've read by Beverly Rae & it definitley won't be my last - in fact I'm glad to have the next book in the series, I Married A Dragon, in my TBR pile! This was a hilarious paranormal romance that had me laughing out loud as I read. You have to like Jenn, she is completely crazy and so good at ignoring the signs when there is something she doesn't want to see. She isn't the most compitent heroine but her heart is in the right place and she is determined to do the right thing. The heat between Jenn and Blake is great & they can't keep their hands off each other. Jenn comes to realise that Blake isn't your average demon and I loved him (well I did when he was in his human form anyway!)

There is also a great supporting cast of characters who were always on hand to add to the hilarity. I particularly liked Partner who was assigned to help Jenn by the Protectors, scenes between the 2 of them never failed to make me laugh. There was also Jenn's human friend Myra who ends up playing an important role in the story and the mysterious George who saves Jenn's life and then wants to hang around.

I'd definitely recommend I Married A Demon if you're looking for a light hearted summer read. I was kept guessing right to the end about how things would work out between Jenn and Blake but I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with them & am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Para-mates" series book 1 12 Dec 2009
By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
She is a somewhat ambitionless real estate agent by day, but this is just a cover for Jennifer Randall-Barrington's real job as a Protector; fighting the supernatural nasties that really do go bump in the night and saving mankind on a regular basis. Whilst tracking down the Bracelet of Invincibility before a particularly powerful demon can get his hands on it and destroy the world, Jenn has to face facts and acknowledge the love of her life and brand new husband Blake Barrington is a demon; one charged to kill her and retrieve the Bracelet.

Yes it was a whirlwind romance and marriage, but as a Protector Jenn should have recognised the classic signs; Blake's love of extra hot sauce, the glowing red eyes, the sexy growl. Jenn knows it's bad for her career and definitely bad for her life, but marriage is a commitment and she loves her husband madly; demonic soul and all. It'll just take a little more effort than she anticipated making her marriage work, after all every couple has their little secrets they keep from each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed this author's contributions to the "Still Sexy Ladies Guide to dating Immortals" series and had no doubt this book would be an exciting, humorous and fast paced paranormal romance. The humour was far more abundant than anticipated (Jenn's "Partner" springs quickly to mind, as do characters George, Myra and Mrs Wipp) whilst BR takes fighting dirty to a whole new level of disgustingness, as Jenn takes matters in hand to destroy the demon that threatens the world. Fast paced, adventurous, funny plus plenty of steamy action, "I Married a Demon" is a great introduction to a new series, to be followed by "I Married a dragon"; although book 2 is only scheduled for electronic release May 2010.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer fun! 31 July 2009
By Deborah Wiley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Her job as a Protector is the last thing on her mind when she marries Blake Barrington. Jennifer Randall-Barrington is on a forced vacation from the Society for the Protection of Mortals and Control of Supernatural Beings (S.P.M.C.S.B.) when she falls head over heels for Blake. Unfortunately, she also misses all the warning signs and now finds herself married to a demon! Protectors kill demons... but can love find a way to make their unlikely match workable? Jennifer will have her toughest assignment yet, as the Bracelet of Invisibility is missing and her demon husband may be involved!

I love Beverly Rae's books and I MARRIED A DEMON is the perfect example of why this is so. The witty repartee coupled with the humorous situations make for one heck of a hysterical read! Beverly Rae is simply a master at combining the paranormal with the humorous as she does for demons what she'd previously done for banshees... she makes them utterly likable!

The characters in I MARRIED A DEMON are absolutely divine (pun intended). Even secondary characters make you want to see them more. Who couldn't help but give a sigh over Myra's substory? Myra is the quintessential friend, the friend who knows all the good and the bad and loves her best friend Jennifer regardless. Jennifer is also a phenomenal character as she balances her roles as a real estate agent and Protector with her roles of best friend and spouse. And am I the only one who giggled just a bit over a real estate agent vanquishing evil?

Beverly Rae writes stories that are sheer fun! I MARRIED A DEMON is practically impossible to put down. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars I think you will like Jenn and the rest of the characters in I Married a Demon. 18 Jun 2011

Format:Paperback
Jennifer "Jenn" Randall has led a secret and double life for years. She is a real-estate agent but her real job is a Level 10 Protector with a super-secret Society, which protects mankind from the things that go "bump in the night". When she is ordered to take a vacation she heads to somewhere warm and never expects to fall in love. She ignores all her instincts, falls for, and marries a gorgeous man, Blake Barrington. One thing she never expects is that her new love might just be one of those beings she is supposed to protect humanity from.

Blake Barrington will do whatever it takes to become human again. In a bad set of circumstances he became a demon along with his brother. Now he is willing to make a deal to get his humanity back. He takes on a job to deliver an object of power to his demon lord, never expecting that his wife is tasked with looking for the same thing, or that his demon lord will up the ante and say he also must kill Jenn.

Knowing he isn't going to kill Jenn, keeping his brother from messing everything up, and figuring out how he can become human and keep Jenn might just be more than Blake can handle. Jenn, on the other hand, is trying to keep from believing all the signs that her husband is a demon. Even if he is, what is she going to do, as she is so in love with him, not to mention he is the best lover she has ever had? It's all in a day's work for a Protector.

I Married a Demon is the first book in the Para-Mates series by Beverly Rae and it definitely won't be the last that I read. I love how Ms. Rae is able to have a spunky character who takes life at a blinding pace and head-on, but at the same time be funny and loving. I think the idea of a secret society is fun and at the same time sort of scary. But overall, I Married a Demon has all the ingredients to make a successful and fun story, as well as the great start to a new series. I think you will like Jenn and the rest of the characters in I Married a Demon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring 1 Sep 2010
By Coop - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Lots of "telling," bad dialogue, cheesy jokes, and TSTL moves. Heroine, who is a demon/ghoul/zombie/werewolf tracker, is blown away when she discovers the existence of aliens. Yeah. Right. Also, she can't tell that her husband is one of the creatures she supposedly has devoted her life to eliminating. In fact, she doesn't seem to be able to spot any of the creatures unless they are attacking her. Also, consistently ignores any clues. Save your money.
