Looks good 25 April 2008
By samoyed
Format:Paperback
Just got this book, havent tried it yet. The recipes look great but my only reservation is there are a lot of references to "flavourings" for example "1 1/2 teaspoons butter flavouring" - why not just use butter!!! Also, for a lot of the bases she uses sandwich cookies, which I think are oreo type biscuits (or custard cremes!!)-not sure about them, but still, cant wait to try it.

I respectfully suggest her other cheesecake book.................. 26 Nov 2007
By Toni - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Cheesecake has a magnetic pull for me, so I usually enjoy a good cookbook on anything that hails that white brick of delight. That being said, this particular book title is a bit of a disappointment in that her first cheesecake book is far superior to this one and I would respectfully steer you to that one called "Cheesecake Extraordinaire". Allow me to explain.

This book is basically a updated version of her first book, but with this one, there are absolutely no photo's of any cheesecake except for the cover. And because of that photo and her name, I assumed this was a new book altogether, but upon receiving it, I was disappointed in that it is empty of photography and new recipes.

Also, the Foreward is the basically the same one from her other book with only a few altered sentences so it reinforced my thoughts. And even the 5 "new" cheesecake recipes are very similar to ones from her first print, with just an altered ingredient or two. I suppose that if I knew this was an updated version, I would have reconsidered its purchase.

So I would strongly recommend Mary Crownover's "Cheesecake Extraordinaire" for it's sumptuous and delicious photography which makes you have a very difficult time in deciding which of the excellent cheesecakes to make.

creamy creamy cheesecakes 7 July 2010
By MarciaM - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
First, I love cheesecake. Well except for chocolate cheesecake which to me doesnt taste like cheesecake. I love baking cheesecakes, trying new recipes, spending too much money on cheesecakes cookbooks which by the way there are surprisingly very few. And yes this is one of the books I have and have tried. These cheesecakes have the most creamy perfect texture, melt in your mouth perfection. Another reviewer said the baking temp was too low, but I think that is the reason for the superior texture. It makes for a more time consuming task to be cooking for two hours at 200 then cooling for another two hours with the oven turned off, but we arent talking about any more labor involved, just time. And I overslept while my peaches and cream cheesecake was in the cool down cycles (oven off, cool slowly in oven for two hours) and it still came out one of the best cheesecakes I have ever made. I had two proposals from work over this one! Sure they were for me to sell them this cheesecake to order and not marriage, but I'll take what I can get! The crusts are basic varieties you'll find anywhere, the toppings are wonderful. One of them is melted white chocolate with sour cream and lemon extract, then you pour over your cheesecake and chill. WONDERFUL. So all in all I would rate this book 5 stars for variety, clear directions and superior texture.

This book really is great and I highly recommend it for anyone who loves cheesecakes, and her tips would help out even people who don't know how to make the cheesecakes they love so much (just make sure you have plenty of time on hand).
