Synopsis
I KNOW WHO KILLED ME begins as Aubrey Fleming (Lindsay Lohan), a high school student with serious goals as a writer, describes a fictional character she's made up, a stripper named Dakota Moss. Though Aubrey is kidnapped by a serial killer preying on local girls, she manages to escape the fate of all his other victims and survives. When she is found two weeks later after enduring horrible torture, she claims to be Dakota. The horror that Aubrey endured under the hands of the killer is only the beginning in this thriller, as Aubrey/Dakota questions her own sanity and sense of reality.

As an actress who has made her name by playing good-girl characters in films such as FREAKY FRIDAY and MEAN GIRLS, Lohan makes quite a departure from her previous roles with I KNOW WHO KILLED ME. There's plenty of disturbing fare here: scenes of Lohan pole dancing are contrasted with scenes of the same character as an amputee. This is director Chris Sivertson's first major film after two smaller pictures (ALL CHEERLEADERS DIE and THE LOST), and here he creates a highly stylized work with a number of haunting visuals.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh no..... *Possible spoilers*, 7 Feb 2008
By David Rush "Fasten your seatbelts, its going ... (Glasgow, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Oh, Lindsay. What were you thinking when you agreed to be in this piece of crap? First of all, Lindsay Lohan is a good actress. She may be more well known for her personal life than for her acting nowadays, but once upon a time she was one of the best young actresses in Hollywood owing to her excellent performances in Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. However, if she keeps making films like I Know Who Killed Me then all of her credibility will soon disappear.

In the film she plays Aubrey Fleming, a smart young girl in high school with a talent for writing and a huge imagination. She lives in New Salem, a seemingly ordinary town that is rocked by the news of the disappearance of one of Aubrey's classmates and her subsequent murder. Life goes on as normal for Aubrey until one night she vanishes. When she is found unconscious days later, her parents cannot believe the horror that she has been put through by her attacker. The twist however is that the girl - and here's where the film begins to make no sense - claims that her name is in fact Dakota Moss and that she has never heard of Aubrey.

What follows is a confusing, strange and ultimately unsatisfying plot filled with twists and turns and random occurances that lead nowhere. Throughout most of the film, you will probably be scratching your head, totally bewildered by the stupidity of it all. The acting is wooden and best and it is clear that Lohan is enjoying starring in a film where she is allowed to swear and have sex on screen. The script is very uninspired - which is unsurpising, given that the story is so ridiculous - and with a title as daft as "I Know Who Killed Me", its a wonder that it was even considered being turned into a production at all.

As for the scenes set in the strip club where Dakota Moss works - Or does she? Or is the whole film a story in Aubrey's mind? I'm past caring, I hear you say! - they are simply an excuse for Lohan to show off her body and are way too long and overdone. I was not too shocked to hear that at various times during her routines, it is in fact a stunt double performing and not her.

The film has rightly been nominated for nine Razzie awards including two Worst Actress nominations for Lohan for her dual role as Aubrey and Dakota. If you are interested in seeing Lindsay Lohan in her first real "adult" role or you enjoy films that are so bad that they are good - only this really does scrape that as its simply just bad most of the time - then you should check it out, but other than that, don't waste your time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lindsay Lohan Can Act!, 3 May 2008
By Julie Stepney (Birmingham, England) - See all my reviews
There is no doubt that Lindsay Lohan is a good actress. OK this film had a bit of a strange ending, with the viewer not really knowing whether there was another clone of Dakota/Aubrey actually writing the film. It has some unanswered questions for me at the end. What was the reason for the colour blue? Did the other victim stop wanting to be a piano player and was targetted by the teacher. Who was the other girl who was missing?

I would have preferred some answers rather than a picture of the two girls being reunited at the end. But the film was entertaining, it was gripping. The scenes of the torture were well acted by Lohan. And you were left thinking about the end. In fact I watched it twice and enjoyed it both times.

This girl has had a lot of bad press and probably deserves some of it - but don't forget, she wasn't the only known actor in this film, Julia Ormond to name one.

If you are a Lohan fan and want to see her progression into the adult world of film, then give this a view and don't take the opinion of the paid reviewers who have an axe to grind.
