Product Description

Synopsis

Meet a leopard who loves fancy dress, a giraffe who blows hundreds of bubbles in the bath, and a hippo who spins round and round until he gets dizzy. Join the young narrator in her imaginary play with these heart-warming creatures and have heaps of fun as you mime pop songs with an ape and have mud fights with a pig. After all the excitement, it's time for a little nap - and that's when you find out what all these animal friends have in common. This is an exuberantly illustrated rhyming story about the power of a child's imagination. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent 22 Feb 2008
Format:Paperback
I can't remember when we first borrowed this from the library but after one reading my son was hooked. He's 4 1/2 now and still loves it, as does my daughter who is nearly 2.
If you can get hold of the board book version, then I would recommend it as it will be read many times!
Fantastic rhyming. Beautiful pictures. My husband can read this without the book, we have been asked to read it so many times and the rhyming is so easy!
The pictures look a bit like a boy or a girl, which means that both sexes can relate to the child pictured.
My son even learnt animal names from this book!
It's not got many pages so even fidgety children will probably be able to sit still long enough!
And the nicest thing is that all the animals in it are the childs toys that they take to bed, which helps to encourage their imagination.
Absolutely spot on. If you only buy one book for your baby or small child make it this one, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything I could wish for in a board book 19 Dec 2008
Format:Board book
I get fed up with so many board books that have only a handful of pages and minimal text with the result that you are at the end in less than two minutes.

But "I know a Rhino" is everything I could ask for in a board book. It has a very generous 20 pages (ten double pages) and each double comes with one four-line verse of a poem. So not only is there a decent story, there is also time to bond with your child while reading it aloud. In addition, the ending is cute and the artwork vibrant and enchanting.

Each of the first eight double pages features an individual wild animal. As a footnote I mention that one of these is a pig who also features on the last two double pages. So despite the excellence of this book in every other regard, Jewish and Muslim parents may not find it appropriate.

I love this book and highly recommend it. I will make a point of seeking out more books by Charles Fuge and the same publisher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spin round and round with utter delight! 27 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
My child is seventeen months old, and we visit the library regularly. I work with children's literacy and this book has beautiful illustrations, language and rhyme. My child has learnt to spin round and round like the hippo in the story. It is simple, without the boredom of some early board books and I would highly recommend it! Hope his other titles are just as good.

Excellent! Alex (2 1/2) loves this book and so do I. She finishes off all the rhyming prose, before I can finish
reading it!
