Beardyman Done Good !,
By
This review is from: I Done A Album (Audio CD)
Beardyman is also a young gentleman called Darren Foreman. He comes from London and his debut album, 'I Done A Album', proves beyond doubt that he has a very busy mind indeed. Coming in at twenty tracks it's a big listen but Mr Foreman's powers of thematic and rhythmic invention do not leave room for our minds to wander for nary a moment. It is a deeply engaging, complex and frequently very funny listening experience. Jump straight to 'Game Over (Latex Quim)' for an immediate fix of what makes this performer special. His consummate beatboxing skills are craftily deconstructed and scattered and splattered through a raucous percussive arrangement which is not unlike being on-board the best roller-coaster ride you ever scored! 'Vampire Strike' is a deliciously barmy slice of Mittel-European madness stitched up with another bunch of big, bad, booming beats. The nasty night creatures are clearly having one hell of a party! Mr Foreman's musical imagination has few boundaries. Anything and everything's up for grabs in this rich sonic stew. The Arabic flavoured Foreign Beggars/Beardyman collaboration had Mrs Wolf dancing round the cave in an uncharacteristically seductive way (!) but however clever things get he never loses sight of a good tune. Incidental pieces like the madvert-from-hell 'Blind Rabbits' are laugh-out-loud hillarious and provide additional entertainment. 'Sativa Steps' is a particularly lovely composition. To some degree it shares kinship with San Francisco based musician/producer Eskmo's recent work. With its balance between luminous washes of sparkling synth and grinding mechanical rhythmic mayhem it's a lumbering monster of a track. The cut and paste drum and bass anarchy of 'U R Mine', however, delivers some of the album's most intelligently thrilling moments. It's a riot! By the end of my first encounter with 'I Done A Album' my head was spinning (in a good way!) and my heart was beating faster! Mr Foreman did indeed do a album and behold the album was good. Very Highly Recommended.

Beardyman moves up a step,
This review is from: I Done A Album [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
I've been a big fan of Beardyman since seeing his youtube links and finally getting to see him live a couple of years ago.His main brilliance is being able to start a night without a plan and basically wing it and create an hour and a half of comedy / music genius using just his mouth and a few electronic gadgets. The move into the CD market surprised me to be honest, but realistically it was always destined to happen. So does this album take his live comedy and music brilliance and place it onto CD for all to hear? Well almost.... The album is big, 20 tracks ( a couple of these are 30 seconds of humour ( see "if only" ) some of the tracks are fully 6 minutes of drum and bass. The humour is there and great, but after a few listens you start skipping through the specific humour tracks. I mean thats the nature of it. Some of the tracks are sheer genius "Vampire Skank" my favorite I think by far. Some are show-cases of his versatility and some are straight forward tracks to release. All in all pretty good. But not quite perfect yet. Will I buy the next one if its released, the answer is yes.

I Done A Amazing,
By
This review is from: I Done A Album (Audio CD)
If you have never listened to anything by Beardyman before, I would highly suggest that you try his Youtube channel first. His musical talent is undeniably incredible, but it may not appeal to everyone. Eclectic does not even begin to describe the wide variety ability that Beardyman demonstrates in this album. He covers multiple comedic styles as well as a plethora of music genres. As a long-time listener to Beardyman's work, my expectations for this album were incredibly high. I find myself pleasantly content with the quality, quantity and content of this entire record.
