Product Description

Product Description

Cassie was just a little girl who wanted to be loved. Betrayed by her mother in the most horrific manner, and abused by her ‘uncle’, she had to fight to survive the demons of her past.

Cassie couldn’t remember when the abuse began, but from an early age she knew that her life was different from other children. Her mother made it clear that she wasn’t wanted, she wasn’t loved and He said that he was her friend, that this was his way of showing her that she was special.

With no one else to turn to, finally she found the courage to speak out, to tell her mother what he did to her. But her mother wouldn’t listen, and with horror, Cassie was to discover exactly who her abuser was, and why she would never be heard.

I Did Tell, I Did is the incredible story of a girl who was betrayed by everyone who should have loved her, and how she overcame the pain to find happiness and love, and to learn how to live with her past.

About the Author

Cassie Harte had a heartbreaking childhood. She was neglected by her mother and abused from an early age by her mother’s lover, who she later discovered to be her biological father. Hooked on prescribed tranquilisers from her teenage years, she battled to break free for most of her adult life, and through two difficult marriages. Today she is a happily married woman, with a loving and supportive husband and three children. She runs her own practice as a counsellor and psychiatrist.

The writer vs the work 20 April 2011
Format:Paperback
The fact that any survivor can tell their tale is hugely brave, to publish it even more so. Every child should be a wanted child yet Cassie, like many others, was not - and it overshadowed her whole life. She was left defenceless against her abuser who she feared and hated, yet the feeling I got was that her anger and distress was focused mainly on one person: her cold, unloving and rejecting mother.

We can look at this book in two ways: at the writer who was a real-life victim, and at the book as a work. The writer - I have immense respect for and wish that none of these books needed to be written: that such things didn't exist. I hope the telling was catharic for her. As a work - I found it less satisfying. Please don't misunderstand me when I say that from the first page, there was a shrillness in much of the book. Instead of letting the reader form their own opinion, you are hit over the head with constant cries of "What mother would do that?". Agreed - no mother would and should but it was a hard read, not because of its content but because of its repetitive and shrill tone. From the reviews, I see this opinion is not shared and I am glad it has been more rewarding (if that is the word) for others.

I am not an avid reader but i read this book from cover to cover in a matter of hours. An honest, yet disburbing, excemptionally moving and inspirational story which grips you from the first page and although a turning of the page may bring on a new harrowing sad twist, whch leaves you feeling an aray of emotionals, turn the page you must to continue on with cassie through her tradgic, yet in my opinion, heroic life. Thank you to Cassie Harte an incredable strengh, for writing this exceptional book, it has surely touched, inspired and helped me and im sure it will many others. you are an inspiration!

A supremely honest and moving account of this woman's struggle against the odds, which held me from the first page to the last. It's the complete opposite of the sort of misery memoire that catalogues a tragic life story, because Cassie takes us on the inspirational journey of how she overcame it all.
