5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful, 3 Jun 2009
By Pearce (South Africa) - See all my reviews
The actresses are absolutely gorgeous, acting superb, strong chemistry between the two main women characters, story line very entraining and well written with a mix of romance and humour. Quality of film production is far superior to the normal Gay and Lesbian movies available. It's rather refreshing to see a coming out story for adults , in a culture where lesbianism is taboo. It's a must for your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Some Think, 10 May 2009
Although the World Unseen was more substantial I genuinely enjoyed this film, its very feel good and honest.
Funny and touching in equal measure. reviewers may say there wasnt enough love scenes but there are two quite sensual love scenes , that arent graphic and repesent more emotional connection than sex as there is more to relationships than that.
I would reccomend this to my friends, its very similar to Imagine Me & You, a romcom with heart and girls.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice But Dull, 8 May 2009
How could an interracial intercultural film about lesbians ever be boring? `I Can't Think Straight' has the answer. You know that when the only remotely funny scene in a film involves saliva in a glass of water, you're in trouble.

Seriously, I have watched the first half of this film three times. Twice I fell asleep, and once I wandered off to do something else. Captivating it ain't. Whilst watching it, my most prominent thoughts were `this is so boring.' It begins with a bland party, moves on to a scene where they talk about Life Insurance, then onto the art of salad making, then they have a game of Tennis. Somewhere in there there's a scene about making bread. Eventually I sat through it purely because I wondered if there'd be a reasonable love-scene at least. But unfortunately, the film succumbs to the `tickling lesbian' cliché, and so there are no real satisfying scenes in the film. But with a 12-rating, I suppose I should have expected that. When they finally got together I was highly confused, as the two leads showed no real chemistry or connection before that. And at some point there's the unforgiveable so-very-old "But a lot of my friends are Lebanese!" joke, which if I see in one more film I am going to go purple and pop.

One of the main problems with this film is the cover. The cover does not match the film. The cover depicts two beautiful women, who happen to be so photoshopped that it looks as if they were drawn entirely by airbrush. Their seductive poses, expressions, and the red banner beneath them suggests a romantic film containing powerful, all-consuming love and passion. Instead we get a film consisting of Indian and British people walking around and talking about salad and Life Insurance.

I was going to give it two stars and not one, purely because it's not actually bad. It just isn't good either. It's bland in media form. It's not actually painful or offensive, so I won't rip it apart too much. It just..doesn't make anything in the form of impact. It's just pretty and kind of slow. And so, I do want my money back. But, then I remembered the `coming out' scene, during which one of the leads comes out to her sister by accidentally leaving a big pile of lesbian literature on her desk, containing Virginia Woolf, Jeanette Winterson, and Sarah Waters. This was situated alongside a pile of CDs, only two of which were facing outwards. They were by KD Lang.

...I just can't believe it. This is literally the film equivalent of taking a sign, and writing on it in big red letters `I AM A MASSIVE HONKING GREAT HUGE LESBIAN' and beating people around the head with it. Want more subtlety, please!

Watch Loving Annabelle or Bound instead.
