This movie shouldn't work and yet it does, up until the last section which had me staring stupidly at the screen and hoping for subtitles for the very confused. The premise seems good enough, and I couldn't fault the acting, with the exception of the cemetery caretaker whose accent is enough to make one doubt him. There are times when the film seems to be reaching for a level it never fully achieves: the cursive shape of the cemetery plan as it hangs on the wall seems to suggest a connection never fully made. There is a really chilling moment when the central figure runs, half-mad, through the cemetery at night, and finds the empty graves and when the viewer hears sounds that seem to be coming from beneath the earth. But the finale falls flat; the finale seems to have been tacked on and I'm sorry about that: the film deserved a better ending.
