Biography 2011

The Human League are so credible it’s incredible. In fact, they’re probably more highly regarded in 2011 than they were in 1981 when they released their landmark album Dare!

They’re used to everyone from Madonna to Moby, Pet Shop Boys to Robbie Williams, citing them as an influence. Now the dubstep generation – ... Read more in Amazon's Human League Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Stands the test of time... 18 Oct 2011
Format:Audio CD
Still a great album, with The Lebanon as THE stand out track; never get tired of listening to it, especially the end where the main riff keeps repeating. Timeless

2.0 out of 5 stars Unispired 21 May 2011
By Grahame
Format:Audio CD
After the brilliant and innovative DARE everyone had very high hopes of the Human Leagues fourth album Hysteria, particularly following the worldwide success of Dare. Hysteria was released, three years later in 1984. There were three singles from the album that made the top-twenty of the UK singles chart and only one, The Lebanon charted in the US. This in my opinion was the best song on the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best album 1 May 2007
Format:Audio CD
Let's get serious for a moment. Hysteria is the Human League's best album. Following on after a huge selling album is, to some ears, impossible and I suspect the knives were poised before it was released. 'Dare' was an outstanding album, with at least four great pop songs - but 'Hysteria' is more consistent over all ten tracks. The introduction of guitar and bass guitar gives the sound more breadth and gravitas. Indeed, the bass-lines on this album are some of the most impressive ever committed to recorded music, particularly 'I Love You Too Much' and 'The Lebanon'...well, all of them really. If your ears are attuned to low frequencies you'll love this - 'Dare' sounds a bit plastic and tinny in comparison. The whole effort is very tight and, while it doesn't offer as great a song as 'Don't You Want Me', you never feel like reaching for the skip button. I can only think that it appeared to be a disappointment upon first release because of the three year gap from 'Dare'. Of course nowadays three years is de rigeuer, even after top selling debut albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated album 24 Feb 2003
Format:Audio CD
This album is one of my League favorites. A few of the songs are a bit weak... but overall it is a brillant album. The synth sounds are sweet. Joannes and Susanne's angelic voices are as good as ever... especially in "I Love You Too Much." "Rock Me Again and Again (Seven times)" is repetitively catchy. "Louise" and "Life On Your Own," are great Abbaesque ballads and quiet a departure from the Leagues earlier work. Sentimental and charming never-the-less. "Betrayed & So Hurt" awesome synth sounds and vocals. And finally "The Sign" very Fascination like... and very good. If you can, get ahold of it's remix it's a gem. Over all people should not have expected a Dare II. It's only natural that things change, and I'm glad the League did... they've always tried hard not to stick to a certain sound, and to be true to themselves and the music. A League esential... if you don't like it, listen to it again you might be surprised.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great album from a great band! 25 Feb 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
A must have for any Human League fan! I think this album got an unfair review from many critics. Songs like "I Love you to Much, Rock Me Again, The Sign", and "So Hurt" are fantastic. Suzanne and Joanne's voices enhance many of these tracks. Also true with "Louise" and "Life on your Own" which are slower and more sentimental, both still wonderful. A heavenly album from a great band. Too bad the League didn't promote this album more in the States.

...and so 'Louise, remember me!'..Yeah nice one from Phil and partners!! Post Eye-Liner and blush, More long hair and un-shaven..better than that ridiculous July 1981 Hair-do.
Now err, 'Not much hair left these days Phil!' Hairspray! out the window!!

Back to form, not as good as Dare (what would be) if you like the league, you will like this. I now have this on CD, as well as vinyl.

4.0 out of 5 stars VAUDEVILLE AND DECAY!!! 4 Sep 2006
By Mr. Nathan Armstrong VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
the follow up to dare was always going to be difficult!!!!

from what ive read a lot of the band had different ideas and wanted them all on here and some should have been left well behind.

tracks like i love you too much, rock me again are just awful!!!!

on a possitive note there are some underated classics on here such as the sign and so hurt!

the three single releases (the lebanon)...fantastic but a bit to heavy and political for some(not me!)...(louise)....pure classy pop love song...and (life on your own)...classy,wonderful and my personal favourite...but why did they release a song which starts "winter is approaching, theres snow upon the ground" in the spring...sure it wasnt the league but record company big wigs!

this album was am important mile stone for the league..the wonderful girls feature more...some original members left...it showed where they were heading...

not the best album they recorded but not the worst...well save that for crash!!!!
