Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Probably Def Leppard's best album and certainly their most successful, Hysteria pretty much sums up 1980s hard rock: catchy, tuneful and fun. It's also one of the few albums from the period that doesn't sound dated now, and singles such as "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Armageddon It" and "Rocket" remain staples of rock radio. The rest of the album is equally entertaining; "Animal" and "Hysteria", while mid-tempo, have the same slick intensity, and "Love Bites" is one of the few pop-metal ballads that doesn't sound saccharine over a decade after its release. --Genevieve Williams

Album Description

On the 3rd August 1987 British rock band Def Leppard released the album "Hysteria". Already a major force in rock music, "Hysteria" catapulted the band into the stratosphere and became simply one of the biggest rock albums of all time.

The statistics for "Hysteria" are astounding. The album has sold in excess of 16 million copies and counting. Due to the incredible success of previous album "Pyromania" (released in 1983) and "Hysteria" Def Leppard are one of only five rock groups who can claim two separate original 10 million plus selling albums in the US. The others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen. The "Hysteria" album featrues 7 enormous hit singles, including "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Animal", "Love Bites", "Armageddon It" and "Rocket" which have become rock staples that still enjoy huge popularity today and have helped make Def Leppard Britain's greatest ever arena rock band. The album remains Def Leppard's best loved.

wonderful stuff 8 Mar 2005
Format:Audio CD
i first heard "animal" at the end of 1987 driving home from work on the A38. the radio played listlessly in the background, on through habit more than anything else. But hang on - what's this? A classic driving rock song emerges from the tinny speakers- a minute later triumphant soaring chord heralds the chorus "AND I WANT!! AND I NEED !!. I bought the album "hysteria" the next day from woolies . The melodies, the harmonies, the guitars, the personalities!!!!. This album is one of the all time rare pleasures in life, an album of music guaranteed to uplift. There is no nostalgia about this record because it has'nt dated unlike its predecessor "Pyromania" which although excellent has got 1982 written all over it.
Along with "Slippery When Wet" this album ushered in an era of heavy guitars, singalong choruses and loads of hair and spandex.
You know what? it was great.............

Cut glass metal 4 Aug 2000

Format:Audio CD
Although not the best album ever, this is very close. From opener "Women" with its anthemic chorus, through "Animal" and "Gods of War" ith their, er, anthemic choruses, this is damn near perfect. I just wish "Love and Affection" hadn't made it onto the CD, as it wasn't on the vinyl album; I just don't think it's as good as the rest of the album. But buy it anyway!

Hysteria was the first rock album I purchased after hearing Animal. I wasn't disappointed! Gods of War is also a big favourite - much heavier than the rest of the songs. If you are going to start a Leppard collection - pick this one!

Def Leppard were always brilliant, On through the Night would have been outstanding if someone had produced it well. It sounds like it was made in a tube of polos. Read more

Great 80s music
I wore out my Hysteria tape in the 80's so am delighted to have replaced it on CD after many years without it. It's actually better than I imagined. Great music just keeps going.
