Book Description

18 Sep 2009
In this teaching fable, mega-author, Richard Bach returns to his main themes: love of flight and a profound interest in metaphysics. In the course of this slim volume, Bach tells the story of a no-nonsense veteran pilot, James Forbes, and his encounters with a woman named Maria trapped in a plane without a pilot, a flamboyant hypnotist and the hypnotist's deceased wife. Like his previous books, the story is a vehicle to explore various spiritual and philosophical issues. In a sense, Bach asserts, our world is a result of one hypnotic suggestion after another and the secret of a meaningful life is learning to control those suggestions. This is what Bach says about the significance of this work: "We've had the power all along to change our hallucinations and therefore the real world! This power has been known by many labels: Positive Thinking, The Law of Attraction, The Secret . . . We do not create our own reality, it suggests, we create our own appearances, and this book shows how every one of us does it, and has done it, every day of our lives." "While it mines the same territory as The Secret, Bach's book is far richer, raising provocative questions and striking the perfect balance, providing answers without implying that they are the only - or necessarily the right - ones." 5.0 out of 5 stars Hypnotized by his writing... Again! 5 Oct 2009
Just finished reading this little gem and yet again Mr Bach comes up with the goods. One of his other titles "Jonathan Livingston Seagull: A Story" has been gently shaping certain areas of my life for many years now and I can already see that this one is not going to behave dissimilarly.

Pushing boundaries to their perceived limits and beyond. The story itself is engaging and well written, with twists and turns to keep you guessing. Underlying the story are some directions for a path of enlightenment.

Not wishing to give too much away, but if you like the way Mr Bach writes then you certainly won't be disappointed here. If you also would like to be inspired, with a new perspective on life and what it's all about, then this will definately provide some food for thought.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it has me thinking about all manner of life events, with several 'oh yeah!' moments.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, not so good execution 9 Jan 2010
I have been a lifelong fan of Richard Bach and particularly loved 'Illusions.' I was looking forward to something equally profound in this new novel but unfortunately it never reaches those heights. The basic theme is a great one and there is a fabulous book to be written about the effect of suggestion on our day to day exp;erience of living. Sad to say, this is not it. The book takes up the theme and then seems to get lost in a myriad of fairly unecessary details and meandering situations that shed only the most inconsistent light on the underlying idea. Added to this the grammar is so poor as to make it really quite difficult to read at times. It is a shame as Mr Bach has provided inspiration for many over a long period but I am afraid that this particularly aviation related story never quite gets off the ground.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hypnotising Maria 13 Nov 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is another of Richard Bach's mind-twisters. It is based, as usual, around flying light aircraft, but they are mere props for the real story. In a way, it follows on from Illusions, because it makes you think about what is, and is not, real.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual but not Religious 24 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This was an excellent story if like me, you are into spiritual but not religious ideas. There was a lot about the power of suggestion being far stronger than you might ever have dreamed and how it ties in to the Law of Attraction also. This was set in an intriguing story that I read once and then started again immediately and read it again. I found so much in it that I just wanted it all to sink in properly so two readings were required. In my personal experience the ideas in this book ring true. It all works if we but have sufficient faith and follow the ideas as described. I don't believe in beliefs; I believe in faith instead. Richard Bach is one of my all time favourite authors. His Jonathan Seagull hit me like a sledgehammer when I was young and it settled into my deepest subconscious and became a part of me and has re-emerged decades later in new ways you would hardly believe. Thanks for another great book.
