This book is more for older children who have already explored basic typography, although it appeals to HE students (and lecturers!) too. Playful, cute and quirky without being patronising.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart and Fun! 6 July 2012

I ordered this to get an even better understanding of typography and was actually surprised at how difficult some of the activities are! It's a book for all levels - students, professionals, or even those, that have never even considered typography. The book is almost too beautiful to write in, so I make photocopies if I actually want to write in/on it... I can highly recommend it to anyone who needs to brush up on their type lingo or kerning, or just wants to have a bit of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative approach to typography 30 Jan 2011
By Irit Caspi - Published on Amazon.com
This book offers a fresh approach to typography, using various games and exercises to inform readers about many typographical terms, such as serifs, spacing, and more. The simple illustrations have a retro feel, and the book is very cleverly designed as a whole. One can really tell that the authors are extremely passionate about the topic. After all, why write about typography when you can play around with it?

3.0 out of 5 stars Great content, horrible printing! 24 Jan 2013
By Jennifer Watson - Published on Amazon.com
This is definitely a book for designers! The quizzes and games may be too hard for non-designers, it is definitely not a children's book. The illustrations are excellent, as is the content! HOWEVER, the printing is HORRIBLE. I sincerely would recommend NOT buying this book designers, you will be very disappointed. The games where you are supposed to decipher typefaces are impossible because A) the book format is much too small for the point size on most things and B) all of the text is fuzzy and splotchy at smaller sizes. I am surprised at how bad the printing is, I also bought A History of Graphic Design for Rainy Days buy the same authors and publisher, and the print quality of that text is excellent. WHAT WENT WRONG?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fontastic Fun!!! 28 Oct 2011

First off, I admit it, I love fonts. I especially love it when one uses fonts in such a way that it tells more than the words itself. "Hyperactivitypography from A to Z" introduces the concepts behind typography using games and other fun means. Typography is art, and having a basic understanding of it makes it possible to understand why you might be struck by words you see. After reading through this book, I gave it to my 9-year son who fount it to be a great source of entertainment and found he had learned some new things that made seeing words in a whole new light.

I think this book would be especially interesting to anyone of any age that has even a mild fascination with words and what they look like. With the easy availability of a plethora of fonts in word processing applications, page layout applications, etc., it's so easy to create documents cluttered with visual overload. This book will give you a much better understanding of typography which in turn will definitely help you evaluate typographic choices. I've already given this book to several friends as gifts much to their delight!
