Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

Back in the early 70s, Glam rock was for the most part slow, stomping and simplistic. Then, with its banner carried by the musically and personally excessive likes of Girl, Hanoi Rocks and Guns N' Roses, it gradually became harder and faster, looking for inspiration less to Bowie than to the New York Dolls and Iggy & The Stooges. As a result, it became a far wilder and more ferocious beast, with Rachel Stamp at its head in the UK. Their tracks move at a furious pace, yet are tempered by a fine melodic sensibility that manifests itself in the yowling vocal of David Ryder Prangley and the sweetly riffing keyboard of Shaheena Dax. Beyond this, lyrically, they love to wallow in sleaze, picturing themselves as Byronic corrupters and always equating sex with sin (you can if you do it right). Though not quite of the same calibre as Hanoi Rocks and the Dolls, Rachel Stamp are possessed of a certain dirty charm. And, like other unpleasant life-forms, they will grow on you. --Dominic Wills

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a real 'Stamp gig in your bedroom! 28 April 2000
Format:Audio CD
If you've never heard them, shame on you! Rachel Stamp are the hottest unsigned band around, and this album proves it. Anyone who's seen them live will recognise the songs of this cult band who are, in the words of their drummer, Robin Guy, Full Tilt Punk Rock Scum. The tracks will imprint themselves in the brain, and even the straightest of men will find themselves pinching their girlfriend's eyeliner, nailvarnish, and anything that glitters! This is the first album from a well established british band, and you'd be a fool not to own it.

This is Rachel Stamp's 1st cd as their original debut was scrapped, and it's superb. from the opening track u'll find urself wanting 2 dance around like a prat. Dave's voice, like the man himself is soo feminine and sexy. This band will blow u away, the verses rip thru u like a burst of energy and sing along chorus which end up worming their way into ur memory and u can't help urself singing along trying 2 reach Dave's unreachable pitch. The crunching guitars such as in "i wanna b ur doll" blend surprisingly with daves sweet vocals then it goes soft for the bridges then we have the chorus repeated to fade. The keyboards add a brilliant element of pop to the songs. Rachel Stamp are THE band for you because they have super sexy songs which unlike placebo don't depress u, instead u have a collection of their old singles which would fit in @ any party. If u've never heard any of them imagine King Adora only much better looking and with far superior songs.
I also recommend-monsters of the new wave single (1 song that'll have u reaching 4 the eye liner and sparkly top after only a few bars of the song!) in short Rachel Stamp r probably the best band around, certainly good sleaze fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent but rare glam, no bars held music. 16 Dec 2003
Format:Audio CD
This album was VERY hard to get hold of, until i stumbled upon it on Amazon, i had been looking for it for months. But, it was worth the wait. David Ryder-Prangley's voice is as shrill, and beautiful as ever, in a very sexy way (!). The best songs on this album are 'monsters of the new wave', 'didn't i break my heart over you', and 'spank'.if you're a fan of glam, punk or metal with a twist buy this album.
