5.0 out of 5 stars Watch out - this lady is going places, 28 Oct 2005

Hymns for the Exiled is a terrific album. I first heard tracks via Bob Harris. I saw her perform live in Newcastle this week. She has a unique delivery with a good guitar style, the combination is a conduit for some well crafted intelligent lyrics. This is a young lady with a gift. She deserves great things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, haunting, intelligent, political can't stop playing this CD, 16 Aug 2006

I heard the track Cosmic American on UK radio recently and its wistful, haunting quality and the unusual voice of the singer (sweet, childlike, yet knowing) made me rush to Amazon.com, to check out Anais and order the CD. I can't stop playing it and it never bores; there is something new to be discovered in each playing. Have introduced this CD to friends who also rave about it.

Seems to be almost a concept album in that several of the songs are about the illegal war against the ancient nation of Iraq (appears she has studied Arabic and has spent time in Egypt), but the songs all tell stories, they're not traditional "worthy" protest songs. One thing is for sure, she ain't no fan of G W Bush (is anyone with a brain cell?)!

Politics aside, she also sings of; a dress she wears to downtown bars that was made by her grandmother "in the 1950's when the women stayed at home", of the 2002 Quecreek Pennsylvania mining disaster, the death of a drummer friend, and in "Cosmic American", longing thoughts of an old love still painfully missed. A truly lovely album that everyone should own. Spread the word!
