Alan Wilder strays from the 'Mode camp to produce, record and mix his own unique musical style. If your looking for the strangeness, and multitonal sounds that you get from Depeche Mode then you won't be disappointed. However, this album is more experimental on a Kraftwerk and Can level than that you would find within Depeche'. This is a musical journey that will take you through parts of your imagination you never knew existed. The tracks on the Hydrology section of the album give an eerie haunting gothic ambient feeling mixed with the powerful synthesizer sounds found on a Gary Numan or Depeche Mode album. Whereas 1 + 2 are like a fusion of some of Wilder's past hits with Depeche' and his own uniqueness. This is a album that 'Mode fans and fans of Kraftwerk and any other experimental musicians will adore. However, if you are not that much of a Depeche Mode fan you might want to try Recoil's later album such as Bloodline and Liquid, before this. Great album.
