Product Description

One of our larger Automowers. Cuts up to 3000 square metres. This model is designed to cut on steeper inclines. Up to a whopping 35%. The 230 ACX has a charge time of 45 minutes and will mow for a massive 90 minutes. Getting the job done alot faster. It is supplied with the larger installation package to cover its large area. Because it is electrically powered, Automower® produces no harmful emissions. With the settings panel the mower can be personalized to fit many different gardens and preferences. The three razor like cutting blades make clean cuts and since Automower® works continuously it will cut the grass frequently. Shorter clippings mean better fertilising and a greener lawn. Efficient energy management means low energy consumption, allowing Automower® to operate at a fraction of the cost of conventional lawnmowers. If Automower® is lifted off the ground or tips over, the cutting automatically shuts off. In addition, the blades are rotating far from the outer edge of the machine. If Automower® meets an obstacle it will stop and redirect itself without causing any damage. Our top of the line products have been equipped with dual guide wires, which will reduce searching times especially for complex gardens. The Husqvarna Automowers are unbelievable and truly work. They offer a huge saving over your traditional petrol walk behind or ride on mower. There is no fuel costs, no piles of grass clippings, no noise and best of all you dont have to mow the lawn leaving you more time to do the enjoyable things in life!! The Husqvarna Automowers are available in various sizes ranging from the 305 capable of 500m2 (1/8 acre) right up to the award winning 265ACX which can cover a massive 6000m2 (1 1/2 acres). I have had a Husqvarna Automower 210C for 3 years and all was well until it suddenly stopped working last month and was eventually diagnosed as needing a new motherboard. The cost for this was nearly £400 incl labour and to add insult to injury I had to wait while the item was imported from Sweden! The out of service time has been about a month. Just be aware that in buying one of these machines (OK a different but very similar model) but same principle applies, that not only are you paying a lot for the machine, plus installation, but repairs are also very expensive. Husqvarna Customer Service did not bother to reply to my email.

As good as one hoped it'd be. We've had this running for three weeks now and the lawn looks fine.

Not too difficult to set up - it's worth reading the manual carefully several times (I pored over the online version before the mower arrived) to understand how the boundary wire and the guide wire work. We then laid the wire and pegged it and ran it for a week or so to make sure it all worked before burying it. Not too difficult to program either - our best guess on the setting for handling narrow pathways (after severl careful manual readings) was right first time.

I've given it only 4 stars because a). it's pretty expensive and b). it won't cut flowerbed edges. You don't want the front wheels of the mower running over a flowerbed edge and the blade scalping the grass so - sensibly - one lays the boundary wire 30cms from the edge. That means one gets a small border of long grass along the flowerbed; not a great problem, and the bulk of the lawn looks great, but perhaps a different design with the front of the blade forward of the front wheels could have solved this.

But the border problem is minor. After a couple of days' operation the lawns look neat and evenly cut; better than I'd expected. A good cut too - whereas a normal rotary uses a big heavyweight blade to hit the grass fast and hard (with sometimes some tearing rather than cutting) the Automower has razor blades which do actually cut the grass. It takes a while to complete its cutting - I leave mine running for most of the day to handle two lawns totalling 1100 sq m - but it's quite cute as it wanders to and fro. The suggested cutting rate is 125 sq m per hour so one's looking at about 8 hours to cut 1,000 sq m of lawn (plus charging time).
