Netherlands-based Ana sings the blues with aggression and style on Hush, a peculiarly rock style reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde. Indeed, much of this young singer/guitarist's debut solo album is like listening to The Pretenders if they'd grown up on a diet of Buddy Rich and Muddy Waters, not Johnny Thunders. It's an accomplished, rounded debut named after her first band, Hush, formed in her native Belgrade in October 1995 while she was still a teenager. Half is self-written tracks like the sultry "I Won't Let You Down" and lovesick "Mended", half are covers of classic such as Tom Waits" speculative "Downtown". The standout is the full-on-blues duet, "Bring Your Fine Self Home", Ana trading licks and proud vocals with mentor Bernard Allison. --Jerry Thackray

Ana is probably the best woman guitarist i have ever seen. She uses slide to the extent that Hendrix and the experience did and she uses it well. After seeing her live her overall stage performance could be improved but and exellent album anyway.

I first bought her later CD, Comfort to the Soul, after hearing her on Paul Jones' Radio 2 show and was inspired to look for more of her work.
After four excellent CDs I still prefer this earliest CD, Hush, her singing has more drive and her superb guitar work is more diverse. I can feel Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and other excellent Jazz influences pushing through the Blues and Rock.
I find myself listening to Hush mostly because of the greater depth of music! However, the two latest and very different CDs Still Making History and Blind For Love are also interesting, moving away from her roots so clearly shown here and towards more mainstream Rock and Funk.
Ana has an interesting biography and samples of all her music on her website, it is well worth a look and listen.
