Product Description

Their marriage was all business. Until love got in the way.

Cora Rice had never met a man who did right by her. They were unreliable. Irresponsible. Undependable. You could trust them about as far as you could throw 'em. So when she found out that an uncle had named her in his will, nobody was more surprised than she was. A house and a fat bank account, all hers for the taking...if only she were married.

Nathan Larrimore liked Cora from the moment he saw her. But then, there was a lot to like: she was beautiful, strong and self-assured. She was just the kind of woman who didn't need a man--except that she did.

They agreed to be partners: five thousand dollars for Nathan to act as her husband, and when all was said and done they'd live happily ever after. Separately.

Turns out that some partnerships are easier to end than others.

Sensual content.

2.0 out of 5 stars A tedious read 9 Feb. 2014
By Maria
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After reading some of the glowing reviews from amazon.com, I was expecting a good read.

Appreciating her background, I expected Cora to at least be street smart but she entered into the fraudulent marriage with irritating lack of thought or planning and then just passively let the time drift by, ignoring any red flag issues coming up.

All day to day financial matters, particularly the lack thereof, were glossed over; bellboys seemed to make an impressive wage.

When they luckily find an apartment, she acts like a queen, never lifting a finger to do anything. Nathan works a very long, hard day and then has to take on the cooking once home. It appears Cora doesn't even consider the need to clean or do washing, as virtually every day seems to consider solely of, as is stated for one of them "making a strong cup of coffee". The laziest little madam I've read of and not particularly likeable either.

Although it seems it is set in the 1850s, it is written in a rather modern vernacular, which I always find grating, and there is also reference to getting the husband to pull his weight around the house, which is obviously totally at odds with the times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Romance for a Scandalous Woman 18 Feb. 2014
By Roger A. Murfin - Published on Amazon.com

Somewhat bitter, fiercely independent, calculating, and well known as a woman of easy virtue, the main character doesn't seem the type around which to weave the story of a tender romance, yet this works to make a great story. I don't like the intrusion of graphic sex scenes in a book about real love, it makes the work seem pornographic in nature and eliciting lust rather than tender love, yet the couple of more graphic scenes in this novel seemed more in harmony with the developing relationship (though I would have preferred the second one be more suggestive and less descriptive--a writer as good as Lucy Evanson could have communicated the passion without the blow-by-blow account). It was, in all, a tender and heartwarming story of love kindled between two people who had hit bottom.

4.0 out of 5 stars criticalreader 30 July 2012

This was a great sequel to the first book. The only thing I would have liked is if the character from the first book were more involved. This book showed a tough women who was hardened by the world fall for her "prince" by realizing you can still be tough even though you have and need another person. Can't wait for the third book.

Keep them coming Lucy!

Couldn't wait to find out what was on the next page. Great story line that had a different twist. If you love a romance don't miss this one.
