Book Description

16 Feb 2012
Detective Sergeant Harry Keeble's bestselling books, Baby X and Little Victim described his early years in Hackney's Child Protection Unit, as he battled to get to grips with cases of horrific child abuse. In Hurting Too Much, a more experienced Harry relates a series of extraordinary cases he encountered with Ella, a young and newly qualified social worker. Together, Harry and Ella face the violence of forced marriage, the horror of maternal incest and the cruelty of child slavery. As the unrelenting caseload threatens to push the inexperienced Ella over the edge, Harry uncovers one of the most shocking cases of child abuse he's ever witnessed, forcing the duo to tread new ground in the search for justice. Harry's searing account reveals why working in Child Protection has never been so tough. It also shows why, despite the fact that so many courageous people are ready and willing to meet impossible challenges, we are still unable to reach all of the children who so desperately need our help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking 16 May 2012

Enjoyed reading this book while on holiday - It was easy to put down and pick up between siestas! As my daughter is a social worker it was most ihteresting to read about the police viewpoint of situations and solutions. Each incident was described well and Harry came over as a very reasonable man who is trying to make a difference. As is often quoted 'We don't know how the other half live'

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely interesting 29 Mar 2012
By Sheila Camp VINE™ VOICE
Format:Kindle Edition
I've read all of Harry's books and each one takes you into "his world".

Each chapter deals with a different child protection case. Sometimes the outcome is not what you want to read but most of the time it's sorted satisfactorily. Reading this book you can see how social services "overlook" certain things. I know this shouldn't be the case, but in "real life" it is.

A really interesting book, hard to put down, written by someone who takes his work to heart. Harry's account reveals why working in Child Protection is tough. It also shows why we are still unable to reach all of the children who so desperately need our help

If you are reading this book on your lunch break, the chapters are just long enough.

Well done again Detective Sergeant Harry Keeble

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing and truthful book 13 Mar 2012
By IS
Format:Paperback
This book took me into the world of Child protection ... it really gave a frank and detailed account of the realistic work that takes place.
The way that the workers strugle but, for some reason, keep going in a job where there is very little thanks and alot of dislike from others.
I found it a book that was hard to put down.
Thank you once again for a great piece of work, everyone should read this to understand the dificulities that occur from all directions for professionals working in child protection.

Great book, brilliantly written. And such a fantastic job that Harry Keeble and his team do against such hard odds. The world is a scary place, these stories prove that shockingly.
