Product Description

Product Description

'The Time Hunters and the Box of Eternity' is the second in the bestselling Time Hunters saga.

Becky and Joe Mellor return to Bowen Hall for the half term holidays to find things are as unusual as ever. Of course, that's to be expected when you're sharing a stately home with a dinosaur, a winged horse, two sabre-tooth tigers, Will Scarlet and Bowen Hall's latest resident - a dodo named Deirdre. Things, however, get more intriguing when American time traveller, Bruce Westbrook, arrives with two gold doubloons that seem to possess strange, supernatural powers.

So begins a thrilling adventure that leads Becky, Joe, Uncle Percy and Will to 1920s Chicago, Victorian Edinburgh and the 18th Century Caribbean - battling gangsters, pirates, sea-monsters and zombie sharks on a quest for the legendary Pandora's Box ...

The clock is still ticking ...

PRAISE FOR 'THE TIME HUNTERS' BOOKS:

'I really enjoyed reading THE TIME HUNTERS. You start off the action with a bang, drawing the reader in right away. Your writing is strong, and in places has a classic feel....It has terrific potential.'
HARPER COLLINS

This is a wonderful adventure. It has the magic of Lewis Carroll and Kenneth Grahame, the inventiveness of Roald Dahl and the writing skill of Rudyard Kipling in my opinion. It is the natural successor to Harry Potter. Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying for adults too 13 Dec 2011
By Ignite TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
Carl Ashmore goes from strength to strength. This book, allegedly a children's story, is a continuation of the adventures of a brother and sister and their Uncle Percy, a Time Traveller. The characters are believably drawn, the story is huge in its imaginative scope and the whole combines history, palaeontology, adventure, danger and great fun. The author is not afraid to address dark emotions - he never talks down to a child audience so it is a very satisfying book for adults too. There's a huge sense of humour in this book - I still laugh aloud at the name of one of the pirate ships. I won't give it away.
Carl is on to a winner with this series - I am glad to see that there will be more and I look forward to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars TH2 5 Dec 2011

After waiting ages (plus a few more days) I finally got my hands on Time Hunters 2.
The wait was well worth it as this is another gem. Basically if you liked the first one, you'll love this one.

Becky and Joe are off on another adventure with Uncle Percy and Will. This time they have to deal with Chicago mobsters and pirates.

This may be a children's story, but I adored it. If I was a parent I'd happily read this to my child again and again. I also think this story would make a lovely family film.

If you want a fun packed adventure story. This is the one to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars The series gets better 31 Jan 2012

Which is hard considering how good the original book (The Time Hunters (Book 1 of the acclaimed series for children of all ages)) in this series was.

We see a lot of new characters here, some good, some bad, all well written and likeable/dislikeable. Had this been an adult book, I would have liked to have seen more of the evilness of George Chapman and Al Capone, but as a children's book I think it goes in to just enough detail. The main characters are all here again, and it's nice to see them growing as a close knit group of travellers.

Again, as with the first book, I find the style similar to that of Jasper Fforde's work, which can only be a good thing in my opinion.

I'm looking forward to the third book in this series, although as yet I have no idea when that will be.

The only bad thing I can see in this series is the addition of "..in the acclaimed series for children of all ages" to the titles. I've said this before in other reviews (for those of you who read them all, Hi Mum) - I'm quite put off from buying a book when they add this to the title. Who's given it the acclaim? I don't care. I'll read a book based on the blurb, and also from reading reviews of the book - not by it having a ridiculously long title that really is the title and some stuff pinned on for marketing. Maybe this is a Kindle thing, but I do wish people would stop doing it.
