Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

In 1856, Henry Lee Norris, an American entrepreneur, landed on Scottish soil in search of a home for his boot making company. Having acquired a block of buildings in Edinburgh, known as the Castle Silk Mills, the North British Rubber Company (which much later became known as Hunter Boot Ltd) was registered as a limited liability company in September 1856. In the beginning there were only four people working for the company, by 1875 the team had grown to 600 members of staff. Production of wellington boots was dramatically boosted with the advent of World War I, when the company was asked by the British government to construct a sturdy boot suitable for the conditions in flooded trenches. The mills ran day and night to produce immense quantities of these trench boots. More than a million pairs were made to cope with the Army's demands. The fashionable boot was now a functional necessity. Hunter's most famous welly, the original Green wellington, was made over 50 years ago in the winter of 1955. It was the first orthopaedic boot that they made and was launched alongside the Royal Hunter--another boot that remains in Hunter's range today. Today, Hunter remains the preferred welly brand for those who like to work hard and play hard--there's a great range of boots to suit welly wearers all over the world--from the Royal Family to festival-goers, working farmers and landed gentry alike.

as usual - expected good quality / only problem is that the sizes seem to come up one size smaller / so after wearing once cannot use again, and cannot send back as have walked in them. l have purchased same size in neoprene (same model) and fit fine . so consistancy is not a strong point in sizing / so check carefully prior using.

Hunters have gone down hill fast after movig production to China the quality is rubish. I am now sending my 3rd pair back in only 11 months!!! The sole has come away on 2 pairs and the 3rd has split down the back. I hate to say it but I think its time to go for the french boots!!

Customer services tell me that a heel support insert has recently been added to the Balmoral Neos. It is a small area of fabric stitched into the heel area, presumably to ensure the neoprene lining does not wear.

Unfortunately, the top edge peels down, which leaves a very painful edge right on your achilles tendon. The boots are unwearable. If you try to peel off the material, it takes off all the neoprene lining.

How is it possible to make a pair of uncomfortable wellington boots? Hunters seem to have perfected it. Avoid these boots and save yourself the inconvenience and expense of having to return them, which you will.

Everything you could want from a welly.
Well made, good grippy sole, totally waterproof. They even have a little nubbin on the heel to help you get them off. Recommended.
