As an avid reader of Marie Rochelle, I know that not all of her books are winners but there was not even something remotely likeable in this book. Having read the previous two books in this series, I was looking forward to reading Emerald's story. I shouldn't have bothered...the story is so lacking in substance, boredom is immediate and I only read it because I paid (or overpaid for it). If you MUST read it to complete the series, borrow it from somewhere or someone. Don't waste your money.

First, let me say that I normally love Marie Rochelle books; but this one I didn't enjoy at all. I'm still wondering how in the world did these two fall in love when they didn't even know each other. This whole story felt rushed and like she needed to write anything to finish off this trilogy. The first book in the trilogy; I loved because Nash knew who he wanted and he was determined to get his opportunity to make Shauntee his woman. The second book was ok; Sapphire and Brian were a good couple. I felt their story needed to be fleshed out a little more and it ended too quickly. In this third book, I felt like I am missing so much. There seemed to so much more to Chance and it was overlooked and never explored in depth and I just couldn't didn't feel Chance and Emerald for the long haul. By the end of the story; I wanted Chance with anyone but Emerald because she acted like a teenager and not a grown woman. This story had such potential and this story seems like such a waste and so not what I expect from a Marie Rochelle love story.

Interesting Read 8 Jun. 2012

When I sit down to read a book I want to become completely involved in the lives of the characters I'm reading about. If the opening paragraph does not grab my attention then I know that the rest of the story will probably not interest me. This book however threw me right into the deep end by introducing me to the main character by way of his attitude.

Chance Cutter is a love-them-and-leave-them kind of guy. His best friends Nash and Brian are blissfully happy because they found the love of their lives, which Cutter can't and won't understand. He couldn't imagine being with the same woman for the rest of his life. The author gave me a little insight into the bitterness Cutter feels towards relationships and how he manages to alienate his two best friends because of this. His attitude changes when he meets the assistant medical examiner, Emerald Stone, who, unbeknownst to him, is the best friend of Nash and Brian's girlfriends.

Emerald wants nothing to do with him and as the story progressed, I found out that there was a reason behind her dislike of him, even though he makes it his mission in life to pursue her. This story was enjoyable and entertaining and had characters that were likeable and who made me care about them. I got to see behind Chance's bitterness to the vulnerability he tried to keep hidden. I also got to see the close relationship Emerald had with Nash's fiancée, Shauntie, and Sapphire who is Brian's girlfriend.

This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. My only problem with the book is that I felt the author rushed the ending. Without giving too many details, I simply felt the author wanted to end the book and did not fully flesh out the ending. It needed just a little something more that would make you say "yes, I'm glad she did that". That being said, I still enjoyed the book and it was a good read.
