I have been learning Hungarian for two years and am finding this book extremely useful. It's explanations are clear and the examples easy to follow. If you've bought a dictionary, buy this next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but breaks with promise to be jargon-free 9 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A good and complete overview of Hungarian grammar. I don't know of any other book that covers all topics in such great detail. The promise in the introduction text to be jargon-free is however a bit of a stretch. See for instance this quote from paragraph 16.5: "The verbs kell 'be necessary', akar 'want' [...] often occur in constructions with a second verb in the infinitive. When they do, they require that the preverb position be filled. In such sentences, the quasi-auxiliary is the conjugated verb (accordingly it occupies the verb position) and the preverb position is filled with the verbal complement or modifier of the infinitive - not of the conjugated verb."
