1.0 out of 5 stars Lack of basic words and wrong verb form. 4 Jun 2002
Format:Paperback
This "dictionary" had no English entries at "pl-". Think of words like "please", "place" and "pleasant". They should be in even the smallest of dictionaries. It has also chosen the infinite as the entry form for hungarian verbs, which, belive me, is a very bad choice. 3rd person present tense is the commonly used. (for Hungarian). The grammatical explanations in the middle are in parts wrong. Go look for something else!

1.0 out of 5 stars unprofessional 11 Jan 2002
Format:Paperback
The main flaw of the book is its lack of use of phonetic transcription. Instead, it employs Hungarian transcriptions of the English words that are of no use whatsoever, moreover they are misleading and inaccurate. Thus from this point of view the book is highly unprofessional and does not qualify itself as a dictionary.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid like the plague! 16 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
I had earlier bought a book on Hungarian also published by Hippocrene (Beginners Hungarian) which was utterly inept and crass (see my review on Amazon). Faute de mieux, I bought this as a bilingual dictionary to accompany me to Budapest. It is horribly slovenly and unbelievably inept, as other reviewers have indicated. How it ever got published is a mystery. Among the first words I looked up were 'ticket', 'intelligent', 'England' and 'please'(no entries at all beginning with 'pl', as already pointed out by a reviewer). All these words were absent. This product gets less than zero out of ten. If only Collins did a pocket Hungarian dictionary!
