Product Description

Product Description

Although books on Hundertwasser's work abound, few are as satisfying as this luxuriously designed, one of a kind volume that was originally created as an exhibition catalogue. Bound in black linen, foil-embossed, and printed in six colours with impeccable attention to detail, this gem of a book contains ninety-eight colour illustrations featuring a selection of Hundertwasser's graphic works along with critical texts and commentary by the artist. A short introduction, an essay on the artist's graphic work and an up-to-date biography make this an indispensable book for fans of Hundertwasser and lovers of beauty.

About the Author

WIELAND SCHMIED is an art historian and was a longtime friend and companion of Hundertwasser. He is president of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Art and is the author of numerous books, including the catalogue raisonne of Hundertwasser's works

This book is tiny - its postcard size. It has a black fabric cover and pages are black with silver white text. It has a really high quality feel to it.

The graphics/prints/images inside include some familiar stuff as well as not so familiar. They are gorgeous bright colourful prints (and reflective were his original works were).

Some background to this book. It is based around a 1973 exhibition catalogue that was produced to Hundertwasser's own high standards - everything was chosen specifically by him, including the size (he wanted it small enough to fit in a pocket or handbag). The quality and cost caused publishers to dismiss the idea of printing/reprinting it so it was produced by a friend of Hundertwasser's and sold numerous editions (in its original form). This edition, still produced to Hundertwasser's exacting standards, is the first edition since 1983 and celebrates what would have been his 80th birthday.

I can only re-iterate how lovely this book looks and feels. If the house was on fire and I could only rescue a few things - this is one of them. It's also one of those books I can see myself in the future buying as gifts for people; even if they have never heard of the artist its a pleasure.

This is a book originally produced by Hundertwasser to accompany his exhibition. It was produced small so people could carry it around in their pockets.

It's beautifully produced, in foil printing throughout and linen hardback cover. So the prints themselves are excellent quality.
However, it is worth noting that although a lot of the prints are the size of the book (postcard size), there are also lots approximately postage stamp size.

If you are prepared for this, then you'll appreciate the book.

Overall it's something a bit unique and different, just like Hundertwasser himself.
